Gradient hummed softly, threading strands of seaweed together to make... something. He wasn't completely sure yet. He'd figure it out as he went.
Nearby, Crescent was laying on his side, tail curled up to cushion his head in a way that should be impossible. He had always been weirdly flexible for a mer. Sometimes, Gradient felt like he was actually supposed to be an octopus or something.
"What are you doing?" Gradient asked. The other glanced over at him.
"Drawing, I guess," he replied. "I don't know, I wasn't really thinking about it. What are you doing?"
"Weaving," he said. "Want me to show you?"
"Sure," he answered, sitting up.
So he did, suddenly very self-conscious of all the little mistakes he'd made prior in the... the thing.
"What's wrong?" Crescent asked.
"Nothing!" he exclaimed.
"I'm good at reading people. Something's bothering you and I want to know what it is." Gradient sighed.
"I don't know... I just don't like the way it looks, to be honest," he replied, holding it up.
"Why not?" he asked. "I think it looks nice."
"Well, if you really think that-"
"I do."
"...Then you can keep the finished product."
"That's great!" he exclaimed, wrapping his arms around him. "Thank you."
"Don't thank me until I'm done."
"I'll thank you whenever I feel like it."
Gradient sighed fondly, giving his boyfriend a soft smile. Crescent returned it easily, before deciding that Gradient was a much comfier place to sleep than the seabed and trapped him in place as he napped.
"I should've seen this coming," he muttered.
