SLIDE.
Throughout your life, you've watched many movies, but this has never occurred in any. You couldn't wrap your mind around what was going on.
You put your hand into the pocket of your shorts hoping to find your phone, but nothing was in there. This led you to follow your instinct, find a self defense weapon that was effective. Your tennis bag has several racquets that could probably count as a weapon, but you only had so many balls to use in a long distance situation. You knew you had to find a gun and bullets before other things, especially since you already had a decent amount of food and water in your bag.
Looking around you, you tried to jog your memory and see if you could remember where the gun shops and such would be at. After a few seconds of thinking, you ended up with a blurry memory of a gun shop. Following that memory, you reached a small gun shop. The door was locked, so you wouldn't enter through the entrance. Looking at the window, you realized that it was pretty thin glass. You set down your tennis bag and unzipped one of the sections. You grabbed a racquet and zipped the bag back up before unzipping the section right beside it. That section held around 10 tennis balls. You grabbed one with your other hand and took a good ten or so steps backwards. Dropping the ball from the chest area, you swung your racquet and hit the ball. The ball flew towards the window and the whole window shattered and broke. Glass shards fell everywhere, even onto your tennis bag.
You only groaned in annoyance. "What am I Even doing?"
Rolling your eyes, you walked back to the broken window and jumped through the window frame. Guns surrounded you, it was a heaven for gun collectors like your dad. You glanced around and looked for a few specific models: Glock 19, AK-103, and a Barrett M82. They were the guns that your dad always preached about, one was a handgun, the other was an assault rifle, and the last was a sniper. Your dad had the exact same models, so you knew how to work them after your dad took you shooting with him when you were younger.
After only a few minutes of searching, you found all three. They weren't as heavy as when you last held them. Carrying them back to your bag, you lifted the bag through the window frame and cleared one of the big sections before placing the two big guns into the bag and keeping the handgun at your waist.
Now all you needed was some bullets before you set off to hopefully find someone.
You filled one of the smaller sections full with bullets and attached some to your waist beside your gun. Picking up your bag, you felt as if you filled it with bricks. It was many times heavier. You wouldn't even be surprised if the bag weighs almost 100 pounds now.
It was now night, and you haven't found anyone else. Frustrated, you tried to take a few deep breaths to relax. You looked around again to observe your surroundings, and you found a light in the distance. It was a pink light that slightly pulsed. You decided to follow your gut feeling and run towards the light, carrying your makeshift survival bag with you.
After a bit of running, you stopped in front of a building that had rather interesting characters written on the sign. It was the 'GM building.' You've never heard of it before and it looked pretty sketchy with how dirty it was, but since the light was on and the door was open, you assumed that there would be people inside of the building.
As you walked into the building, to your right was what seemed to be a dispenser of some sort, it either dispensed lottery tickets or drinks. In front of you was a hallway, and on top of the entrance read 'the game arena is up ahead.' The constant buzzing and flickering of the small sign at the end of the hallway pointed to where the so-called game arena would be. You kept a hand on the handgun that was on your waist as you took slow steps approaching the sign. As you got closer, the sound of a clock ticking started. You backed yourself up against a wall and turned your head past the corner. The arrow sign only pointed to a reddish orange elevator that seemed to still be able to operate. Right beside the elevator stood three guys that seemed to be around your age. The tallest one had yellow hair, the middle one had rather unkempt black hair, and the shortest dressed oddly nice and had his hair tamed. Overall they seemed rather harmless, so you proceeded forward. Beside the elevator and the people was a window, and on the window sill sat many phones. The sign underneath said '1 per person.' You approached the window sill, causing the males to turn to you, but you kept one of your hands on the gun attached at your hip. They kept silent, just quietly observing your every move. Once you had reached your halfway mark, you heard a small scanner beep that was barely noticeable. You looked at the arrangement of the phones and realized that a few had already been taken, which meant that the other people here each had taken one. You could only guess that you had to take one too. As soon as the phone was picked up, it turned on only to display a loading screen that read 'face recognition in progress please wait for a moment.' It didn't take long for the phone to finish its face recognition and unlock.
'What the fuck is this? Why are all the phones here different, and why doesn't this one have any signal? Hell, most of the functions are disabled, what's the point of telling us to pick up the phone then?' You thought to yourself.
You stared at the phone, hoping for something to pop up, and a white screen popped up, and at the same time, there was an announcement. "Please wait for the game to commence. Currently there are 4 participants. 40 seconds remain until registration closes."
Too many questions filled your head, and you had to seek answers. You turned to the three guys, and they looked just about as clueless as you did. However, you knew it never hurt to at least try.
"Do you guys know what the hell is going on? What is this that we are now registered in?" You asked.
The shortest of the guys ignored your question. "Why do you have such a big bag with you?"
"Answer my questions first."
Before they were even able to speak, a woman showed up behind the 4 of you and answered the question for you. "It's a game."
She seemed much more understanding of what's happening than us.
"Hey. Do you know where everyone went?" The tallest out of the three guys asked her.
Not a single word left her mouth. She only approached the shortest guy and dug her hand into the pocket of his blouse. SHe pulled out an ID and threw it towards where all of us came in. Out of nowhere, a laser shot down and pierced straight through the ID. You saw small fumes appear out of the whole that was made.
"What the hell was that?"
"It's a laser." You and the shortest guy replied to his friend's question.
The woman started speaking again. "Cross the borderline, and you'll never return. You have no choice but to play the game."
The four of you shuddered. Everyone stared at the ID in shock.
Out of nowhere, the messy haired male stepped forward, approaching where the laser just shot down. You grabbed his wrist and pulled him back. He had a death wish walking over there.
"What is wrong with you? Why are you walking over there?"
"You heard what she said. Don't do it."
As you all stood in silence, you heard the sound of footsteps approaching and another girl appeared. However, she seemed to be much younger than the woman who just appeared. She was dressed in a school uniform and held a school bag.
"I'm so relieved!" She let out a sigh of relief before walking towards everyone by the elevator. "Jeez, I thought there was no one else."
She began to move towards the guys, but they all started yelling.
The middle aged woman butted in. "My condolences."
She handed the younger female a phone, and right after, an announcement came up for everyone. "Game registration is now closed. The game will now commence."
"Game?" The girl echoed.
"Game, 'Dead or Alive.' Difficulty, 3 of clubs."
The shortest man muttered. "Three of clubs?"
"What does that mean?" You wondered aloud, turning to the woman.
No one answered. "Rule, select the correct door within the stipulated time frame. Clear condition: leave the building within the time limit."
You looked at your phone and there was nothing more than the rules and instructions that the announcement had just given.
Ding.
The sound of the elevator opening made everyone divert their attention to the now open elevator. Inside it had the word 'start' on one of the white walls.
"You'll die if you just stand there." The woman told you all.
