Deep within me
it wants to be free.
Yet locked within me
you will see.
It's claws will scratch
and it's eyes will watch.
It tries to pry,
and then I'll cry.
Me, it wants to devour,
every waking hour.
Inside of me it'll wait to be
for all it wants is to be free.
The eyes shimmer red,
all I feel is dread.
It stole my heart,
it's tearing it apart.
But when the sun comes down,
everything has been turned around.
The beast is calm,
it will lay its head in my palm.
And to myself I say
"You won't cry for my absence, I know,
because you forgot about me long ago."
The beast calmly looks up,
and its eyes are lit up.
The beast is me,
so it will be.
It looks to me,
asking to be free.
I no longer struggle,
together we huddle.
I unlock the gate,
waiting for fate.
For me it wants to devour,
every single waking hour.
