I didn't look up from my sketchbook that was rested on my thighs as I moved my pencil along the paper. But Elena was not letting up.
"Please, Selene." Elena begged. "I need you to come with me to see Stefan."
That made me pause, and I cocked a brow as I looked up at her. "Didn't you break up with him?"
She crossed her arms, not meeting my gaze, and I could see from how her shoulders moved in like she was protecting herself that Stefan was still a touchy subject. Guilt flooded through me.
"I'm not going for him," Elena took a calming breath and then looked at me. "Jeremy's not going to school until Vicki is found, and I need him to tell me what to do."
I slowly exhaled and closed my eyes because, despite not wanting to see either Damon or Stefan.
I gave in.
"Fine." I opened my eyes and I could see the relief in Elena's eyes and her shoulders relax. "Let's just get this over with."
"Thank you," Elena grabbed my arm and pulled me off the bed and out of her house.
I'm probably going to regret this.

Elena parked the car and gripped the steering wheel. I stare at her and waited. After all, it was her idea for us to come here in the first place and honestly, if she backed out and wanted to go home, I wouldn't have opposed.
Elena exhaled and slipped out of the car. I followed, slower, a weight settling in my chest.
This was for Jeremy—I kept reminding myself of that. And truthfully, I didn't have a problem with Stefan. It was the other Salvatore I was dreading. The one with the piercing blue eyes and a talent for getting under my skin.
