Kyle found himself usually being the first person to arrive for lunch. He had alternative energy fourth period, while Stan had football practice that period. Stan was usually always last which always had the red head looking around until this best friend would appear to claim the seat next to him. Stan noticed the routine and came to expect it every day. So when he walked in and saw Kyle not in his usual spot, there was definitely confusion and a minor amount of concern that flooded through him. He knows he wouldn't overlook him, sure Kyle had stopped wearing his hat as much, but the fire colored hair was like a beacon. The raven-haired boy scanned around the room as he made his way to the lunch table where Cartman was scarfing down his lunch. Kenny and Butters were eating and talking but not paying much mind to the boy next to them.
"Hey Stan." Cartman greeted bitterly but showed no sign of slowing down. The blondes waved, ceasing their chat.
"Hey where's Kyle?" Stan asked. He set down his red lunch box on the table, sliding his way onto the bench. "He's usually the first one here."
Cartman stopped eating and the three of them exchanged a blank look before the blondes turned to avoid eye contact with their friend. "Look Stan, I don't know how to tell you this," Cartman started, pausing to let out a heavy sigh. "Kyle and Wendy are totally boning."
Stan could have sworn he'd heard wrong. For a moment he started to feel the world spinning again, like that night he'd heard Kyle admit to kissing Kenny, a fact that still irritated him sometimes.
"No he isn't, dumbass." Kenny slapped Cartman's arm hard, causing the brunette to pull back, whining while rubbing his bicep.
"What's he talking about?" Stan felt a little better, believing Kenny over Cartman in a heartbeat.
"When Ken an' I showed up Eric was 'lready here, but Kyle was sittin' here with Wendy." Butters explained. "But Eric made Wendy upset and when she left, Kyle went after 'er."
"I didn't do anything wrong!" The larger boy raised his voice in defense. "I showed up and Kyle and Wendy were sitting really close. All I did was talk about how shitty it is for Wendy to be trying to sleep with your best friend and they both got really defensive."
"You conveniently left out the part about them looking at a textbook and when they kept saying it wasn't like that and to shut up, but you kept pushing it." Kenny glared angrily before turning his attention back to Stan. "I guess they got paired up on a project together for their science class and were just trying to talk about that."
Stan had been taking all of this in stride, absorbing all the information and trying to come up with a conclusive story. "So Kyle and Wendy were studying together, and Cartman showed up and made them really uncomfortable, and then they left. Did I get that right?"
"Yeah 's 'bout the gist of it." Butters nodded.
"I didn't fucking do anything wrong!"
"Shut up Cartman." Kenny huffed.
"I thought Kyle was gay but Stan deserves to know if his ex is trying to get with his boyfriend." Cartman stood up and made his way to the other side of the table, sitting down next to Stan. "Be careful Stan, or that bitch is gonna turn your man straight for her."
"There were so many things wrong with that statement, I don't know where to even start." Stan sighed, shoving Cartman's face away. "They have like a bunch of classes together, I'm not surprised they got partnered on something."
