Phi's POV
Finally the time had come. The first round of the great competition was finally here.
Montezuma had explained to all of us that there would be three rounds of the competition, all over the space of three days, and if it wasn't enough he would restart the competition from round one if there were still people alive. The last two people alive after the competition would get to battle it out until one of them died.
I say bring it on.
"Right everyone!" Yells Montezuma. "The competition will be testing four very important things! Strength, Agility, Brainpower and of course, BLADING SKILLS!"
Perfect. This would be a piece of cake then.
Shu's POV
I was in trouble. While i might be a good enough blader to scrape through, and i kight have enough agility and brainpower to scrape through those rounds as well, there was no was i was getting through the strength part. Luckily the first round was based on brainpower.
Phi's POV
The first round was brainpower. This was going to be sunch an easy win for me. All we had to do was go around and montezuma would ask each of us a riddle. If we answered the riddle correctly we were safe for then. Otherwise we would be out of the game. The first four to lose or go out would be the four that were eliminated.
Luckily for me and unluckily for everyone else, i knew nearly all the riddles that exisited.
Bring it on.
"RIGHT EVERYBODY!" Montezuma yelled. "Let's get started!"
First up was Hoji konda.
"What grows shorter as it ages?"
Hoji hesitated. He doesn't know the answer. Perfect.
"Too long!" Says montezuma in glee. "ELIMINATE HIM!"
Like all other times before this, a spike swings from seemingly nowhere and impales hoji's chest.
Another one gone.
"Next riddle for lain valhalla" announces montezuma.
"I have four legs in the morning, two legs in the afternoon, and three legs in the evening. What am i?"
"A human" lain replies confidently.
"Correct!" Says montezuma.
Oh well. Can't get everything you want, can you now? But don't worry lain, I'll get you later on.
"Next riddle for silas carlisle. What gets wetter as it dries?"
"Umm" silas stutters.
"Nonono! Wait! The answer is... a towel!" He quickly yells.
Montezuma looks disappointed but tells him he got the answer correct.
"Next question for Phi!" Montezuma says.
My turn then. Let's do this.
"I am fire. I have three children. One falls down and never gets up, one goes away and never comes back, and one eats but is never full. What are the names of my three children?"
I'd done this before. I knew the answer.
"The children are called Ash, Smoke and Flame." I say clamly.
"Correct!" Says montezuma.
I had passed. Next up was ken midori. He failed. Typical of him. Daigo kurogami also failed his. Just one more left to fail.
"Next we have hyuga hizashi! What has to be broken before it can be used?"
I watch as his face falls and he begins sobbing, pleading woth montezuma to spare him. No luck of course.
But then his brother runs up to montezuma and grabs his arm.
"That's not fair!" He yells. "He's too young for this kind of thing!"
"Kill him! Screams montezuma. "He violated the rules!"
And just like that, another gone.
As usual, the paper awaits me on my bedside table that night.
Day 5:
Deaths: hoji konda, ken midori, daigo kurogami, hikaru hizashi, hyuga hizashi
People alive: 9
Perfect.
