Y/n didn't suspect a thing in the morning. She woke up, got dressed, ate breakfeast and headed over to the gardens. Today they would replant the tomatoes. Nothing too special.
Frypan made y/n's favorite lunch, and her mouth and stomach grew sore from laughing with Minho and Newt.
The boys always teased her and Minho as they tried to kiss. They stood in the grass, about to split ways to continue their work for the day. But y/n's leg prevented her from leaned upwards to reach Minho so he would have to slouch a bit, leaving him prone to one of the boys kicking the back of his knee and sending him tumbling to the ground.
Even though y/n and Minho tried to time the moment carefully that day, someone still managed to run by with a laugh and make Minho fall. Y/n squealed and nearly fell as well, but as a last effort Minho had placed his hands on her waist and kept her upright.
Minho got up, flustered. He chased after the boy and tackled him. They fought each other playfully and the boys around began to cheer.
Y/n had smiled. She had walked (limped) over to the garden to find her "coworkers" to already be working. She sat in her chair and began to wash gardening gloves, open seed packages and remove rocks or lumps from soil.
Then it had happened. A loud guttural yell had sounded. Every glader heard it. Their hearts began to race and they were frantically looking around for the source of the yell.
Y/n heard shouts to the left of the garden, right by the closest maze door. That coudn't be good.
She pushed herself to her feet, boys running past her having heard the shouts as well. Newt came by and held his hand behind her back, helping y/n along.
And then there was a roar. And y/n recognized it. She wouldn't forget it. A monster was here. The one that had killed Jack. The ones that roamed the maze at night.
Y/n and Newt both flinched. But they still approached the doors, a crowd of horrified boys limiting their view. But she didn't even want to see that monster again.
Yet y/n did. Her muscles seemed to move on their own. They pushed their way through the crowd, holding onto Newts shoulder tightly. They walked past a body laying on the ground and forced y/n to face the doors.
It was there. Red eyes and gruesomely weoponized hide as before. It was roaring with... pride. Hunger. Something threatening.
And it looked at y/n like looking at an old enemy.
So many young boys to kill but the red eyes held on her. The griever leaped forward a bit, prowling and roaring.
Y/n nearly passed out as the realization hit her. It was going to attack her. She had no way out of this.
The griever had recognized her, and was ready to finnish the job.
Y/n scrambled to move as the monster charged. Like when giving a speech, you stumble over words or even lose the ability to speak, but now y/n had forgotten how to run.
Someone pushed her to the side and she tore her way through the crowd. Every boy was panicking and running, even Clint who was practically dragging Gally along.
But none of them really had to do so, because the grievers sole reason of entering the glade was to kill y/n. End the rise and fall of her chest.
