JIMIN POV

The car ride from the apartment in Paris to the chateau in the country feels a lot longer than the two and a half hours it's supposed to take, especially given the fact that it's nearly silent in the back of the limo
with Jungkook and Guk.

Apparently neither of them got the memo that a good night's sleep is helpful before a long
day even though I distinctly remember Jungkook lecturing
me on that very subject last night.

He's looking just as tired as
his brother today and I'm starting to get the impression that Guk might not ever sleep.

At least now that we're pulling
up the long driveway that presumably leads to the
chateau, we can all get out
and stretch our legs.

Maybe the country air will do these sleep-deprived
billionaires some good.

"We're here." Jungkook announces, putting the newspaper he's been reading
to the side.

I barely hear him because
the tree-lined drive has just opened up to the most
beautiful house I've ever seen.

And house is probably the understatement of the year for this building that looks like it's come straight from the pages
of a fairy tale.

"Wow." is all I can say as we
step out of the limo and onto
the manicured lawn.

"It's beautiful."

"Oh my God, is that a moat?"

"Pretty cool, hmm?" Guk grins.

"That was the main selling
point for me, too."

"I've never seen anything
like it." I murmur, trying to
take it all in at once.

This is more than a house,
more than a chateau, even.

It would look like an imposing, hyper-masculine castle if it weren't for the conical roofs
over the four main towers that make them seem almost whimsical.

"It is really pretty." Jungkook says, stepping onto the wide, stone-arched bridge that spans the moat.

"But there's a lot of work
to be done here. You'll see..."

Guk and I follow him in through the medieval-looking front door and I'm awestruck as soon as
I step inside the great hall.

It's breathtaking.

It's more than spacious.

It's enormous and grand set on
a scale that doesn't even make sense to my modern eyes.

And it's literally crumbling
around us.

The beautiful murals look like they haven't been dusted in a hundred years.

There are little piles of
crumbled plaster from the
ceiling littering the marble floor.

In other places, silk brocade is peeling off the walls in large sheets.

There's no doubt the hall
used to be stunning, a work
of art in its own right but right now it's just a shell of its
former glory.

Still, I can see the potential it holds and the wheels in my
head are already spinning with ideas.

"You see what I mean
now." Jungkook says.

I nod.

It's not a question.

Just a reality check on the amount of work I have ahead
of me. "It's still the most beautiful place I've ever seen."

"There's more." Guk places a hand on the small of my back and guides me in the direction
of the drawing room.

"We should probably also look
at the kitchens and the ground-floor bathrooms."

"Those should be the priority, followed by our offices and bedrooms."

"These reception rooms will probably be last on the list."

Every room we see is as dilapidated as it is stunning.

But I'm really starting to get a sense of just how big this job
is going to be.

It's a little overwhelming.

I'm careful not to show any doubt in front of the twins.

The tour finally ends in a plain but nice room that is filled with sunlight from the windows that face the inner courtyard.

"This is where you'll be
staying." Jungkook says.

"Feel free to decorate it any
way you wish, as long as it's
in keeping with the overall design."

"Our bedrooms are at either
end of the hallway," Guk adds with a smile.

"You know, just in case you
need to take measurements
or anything."

I return the smile but
Jungkook gives him a dark
look and I step between the brothers, hoping to get the conversation moving in a different direction.

"I think you've both shown
me plenty to start with."

"I'll let you know if anything comes up." I look around the room and crinkle my nose as
the sunlight reveals the layer
of dust and grime that coats every surface.

"Now, if you could just point
me toward a mop, a vacuum, and a dust rag, that would be wonderful."

Both brothers cock their heads
to the side in a way that would have been adorable if the matching blank looks on their faces weren't maddening.

"We don't... uh..." Jungkook
gave a half-shrug.

"I think I've seen some of that stuff in the servants areas just beyond the kitchen?" Guk offers.

"Maybe?"

"Thank you, that's very
helpful." I lie, turning my head
so they don't see me smile.

Why did I even bother asking?

"I'll find what I need, guys."

"And I'll get started making phone calls to local contractors."

"There's a lot of work to be
done but I feel good about it."

Which isn't a total lie, There's definitely a ton of work to do.

And I am starting to feel a little less overwhelmed by it all.

So that's... something.

"Good luck." Jungkook says, moving toward the door.

"Just let us know if you need anything."

"Yeah." Guk agrees.

"We'll be here for you."

They disappear and I can't
help but smile at their well-meaning assurances.

I can already tell that any
help they might be able to provide is going to be limited
to signing checks.

But that's okay.

That's why they hired me.

And I'm not going to let them down.
