Sebastian x Ominis Platonic

WARNING: none

NOTE: Anon request for "Hello! I am discovering your work and loving it! I wonder if you would consider writing about Ominis and Sebastian's friendships prior to their fifth year please? How it develops, their language of friendships, how the Sallows take Ominis in each school holiday, etc."

Ominis had been through a lot in the 11 years leading up to life at Hogwarts. He was relieved to have some escape from home, but at the same time was scared to trust and rely on anyone to be consistent and pleasant in his life.

In no way was he prepared to meet the Sallow twins. Ominis was terrified to make a fool of himself since using a wand as a guide as new to him. For the most part on the train, the boat ride, and on the way into the castle people had ignored him. This is what he expected and as much as it made him sad he had less room to embarrass himself, it was how things had to be.

As the sorting hat was lifted from his head, proudly declaring him Slytherin, he had no idea where to go. Physically, he knew the table, the distance it was, and he had committed it to memory in his short time there, but he had no one he knew to sit beside.

That was until he heard someone calling to him as they clapped and cheered with the rest of the crowd, "Hey! Come over here, I've been saving this seat for you."

He was baffled and his small fingers trembled against his wand as it drew him towards the voice, the first time he noticed it nearly had a mind of it's own. He had a look of shock on his face as he took a seat, getting a heavy pat on the back.

"Boy I'm glad you're here, I tried to catch up earlier, but you walk too fast! My name is Sebastian and my sister Anne is here too." Ominis' lips curled up into a small smile as he introduced himself to the pair for the first time.

After that, Sebastian opened him up and allowed him to see a side of himself he hadn't ever seen before. It was one where he experienced the joy of knowing someone caring about your presence at dinner or at a class. It was feeling his heart race in panic while he and Sebastian hid around the corner from Peeves to try and not get caught sneaking out from their common room past their curfew.

Sebastian never treated him differently, but would ask him blunt questions that were sometimes relevant to his needs and sometimes something out right rude if anyone else had said it to him.

"Do I need to help you with the moving staircases?"

"Do you have your own map of this place in your head?"

"How do you know when you're clean after using the bathroom?"

Ominis was surprised at how much he actually enjoyed that someone was interested enough to care about such things.

For Sebastian, he felt so comfortable being himself with Ominis. It seemed like he could never get on his nerves no matter how much trouble he got them in. He could always see the ghost of a smile on his face even as Professor Weasley scolded them.

He had been intrigued by Ominis, showing up all alone to the train and sitting all by his lonesome too. Of course he could tell the boy was blind, but he was amazed at the ease with which he got around. And if Sebastian was left alone at the station, he probably would have just bailed or something more interesting.

It was immediately following their 1st year that Ominis decided he no longer wanted to go home. He pleaded to his parents to let him stay in Feldcroft with the guise of being closer to all of his professors and learning resources.

He and Sebastian spent this time in their younger years annoying Anne and creating their own adventures in the vast expanse of green and mountains. It was so new to Ominis that he almost acted younger than his age at these times, trying desperately to make up for all the time he missed. He was playful and happy. He loved the smells of the meals cooked at home and of all the life that surrounded Feldcroft.

Every school holiday Sebastian would alternate in visiting back home and staying in the castle with Ominis, since it wasn't like he was missing his family too much. It was important for him to make his own traditions with his friend so that they maintained their special bonds. For Christmas and birthdays they would make it a point to try and exchange the worst gifts. They wouldn't be spending too much money if any at all and would try and outsmart the other to find something they would abhor.

Before their 4th year was when tragedy struck for Sebastian and things changed. He wrote one angsty owl to Ominis and then nothing else for the entire summer off. Despite that, Ominis kept writing to him the whole time.

He hadn't ever had anything so great to lose in his life, so he didn't quite understand, but he was familiar with pain. He wrote his condolences, his advice, and even sorrowful anecdotes about his own childhood.

He needed Sebastian to know that he would still be there for him no matter what. He had been terrified that he would come back to Hogwarts to find his friend gone for good and was stunned when he walked right up like nothing bad had ever happened.

Sebastian wanted to pretend things were the same. He didn't want to talk about everything that was wrong with his life. So, Ominis was patient with him until the day he broke down in the Undercroft. He cried and swore. He paced around shouting and sat curled up within himself while Ominis held onto him.

He apologized profusely to Ominis for ignoring him, but Ominis brushed him off telling him he was just glad to be together and talking about everything. Everything was always more serious from this point on. Sebastian acted outwardly like things were the same, but Ominis knew the truth.

It made him a little bit more cold. It made him stringent with whom he shared Sebastian with. He didn't want anyone else to come into his life and cause him anymore pain. As Sebastian was the one person he had, he felt protective over him.

This is why when the new student appears in 5th year Ominis is careful. He sees Sebastian's interest and wants to encourage it since it is the first time he's seen him act this way in a while, but at the same time he's terrified to step back and let Sebastian make choices on his own.
