(A/N: Heyyy.. It's been a year daddy. I really really miss you. I'm back for anyone who's actually reading this series. Also I'll fix the alignment later.)
Day: 6
There are many things I may have expected in life. An apocalypse wasn't one of them. When it happened, it started with Pomegranate. She didn't make it. It seemed to get many of the other cookies of darkness. I escaped, of course. I had the skill of surviving. The second day I went to check the Cacao kingdom. However, when I arrived, the walls had been compromised. With both defending against the licorice sea and a horde of zombies, it seemed they had been overwhelmed.. I found one person still alive in the kingdom, although bitten. When I had asked they told him King Dark Cacao was away when it started. My father. He had not returned from the meeting he was said to have been having in the Vanilla Kingdom.
I wasn't sure what to do at this point. All I knew was I was alone. I recalled what my father had last said to me. How he hadn't given him love. I had thought on it for a long time. I made up my mind. If I was going to die, I might as well find my father first. They could go from there. First I had to find out whether he was alive.
The day that followed I found my way to the Vanilla kingdom. Things were the same there. Everyone seemed to be dead, walking. I even spotted Hollyberry wandering. My hopes fell greatly. I left the kingdom, staying in an old cabin. However, in the cabin I saw my father's armour. How strange. He must've survived. He hid here. I made up my mind. I had to find him now. So the next few days I kept looking, staying and hiding. Searching and sneaking. Until one day, by luck I was passing a restaurant. I heard a voice. One I recognized as Pure Vanilla. He was inside it seemed. The voice wasn't a good sound though. It was a cry. I looked through a window which was partially boarded up. I saw it. Sparkling, with blood over him. Mint Choco and Pure Vanilla were both leaned over him. Sparkling sat up, but he was dead. I could see it from here, he had died. How? I do not know. Sparkling had grabbed Pure Vanilla, who had cried out in shock. Mint Choco tried to grab Pure Vanilla and pull him away, but quickly decided to go cover elsewhere instead. He didn't want to be attacked too it seemed. Pure Vanilla was no fighter. I knew that. He was a healer. One of the best. Sparkling pulled him in, and that was the bite. Pure Vanilla had tried to push him off, but Sparkling bit his hand. The side of his pinky finger. That's when I heard the gunshot. Sparkling fell back to the bed, limp. Something had killed them. Pure Vanilla was holding his hand in worry, and the person who had shot the gun, Rye it seemed, had come over to him. She raised her gun.
Then it stopped. I couldn't hear them very well since they were inside, but I recognized the voice that came next. My father. Dark Cacao. He had called to Rye to stop. I looked around. The coast seemed clear. I pried the locked door open with my sword, just small enough of a gap for me to slip inside. I closed it and hid behind some of the tables pressed against the wall. I listened from there.
Pure Vanilla was shaking his head, he seemed speechless at the moment. Rye shouted,
"He bit you. He bit you, didn't he? That's a bite. We both know how this goes, Vanilla."
Dark Cacao spoke next,
"We do not know. We have seen the dead around us, but no one had been bit. We saw them come back after death. We do not know if the bite kills or not."
"Don't be stupid! That's obviously how it spread in the first place."
Pure Vanilla continued to shake his head, and he spoke up, but his voice quiet.
"I'm a healer, I can treat it.."
"Like you treated Sparklin?"
I stepped out. I knew how this would end. Rye noticed me, but the others didn't until I spoke.
"The bite does infect.. I saw it happen at the Cacao kingdom."
My father turned to me,
"You-! My kingdom.. What has happened to it?"
"It has fallen."
I looked back at Pure Vanilla. He seemed less panicked, but now a sad worry showed on his face.
"I must die, is that it?"
"You aren't going to die. We'll figure it out."
I looked at my father. I understood that he didn't want to lose everyone. He had already lost his kingdom, and his other friends. I was sure he didn't want to lose this one, but I also knew that my father should know when a sacrifice must be made.
"Perhaps.. We can stop it before it spreads."
Pure Vanilla looked at Dark Cacao,
"How?"
Before I could say anything, I realized what my father was going to do. He grabbed Pure Vanilla's hand, and slice off the pinky finger, along with a good chunk of the side of his hand. Pure Vanilla screamed and stepped back, holding his hand in his other. His eye was wide in pain. Eye. I hadn't noticed until now that one of his eyes were closed and bloody. What had happened in these few days?
Even Rye had stepped back after Dark Cacao had finished what he was going. She seemed surprised too, although not as much as Mint Choco, who was still watching from the corner. Pure Vanilla was mumbling to himself, in a worried panic. He fumbled for something to stop the bleeding. Dark Cacao had torn a piece of his cape off, and wrapped it around Pure Vanilla's hand. He pointed accusingly at Mint Choco, and told him to watch him, before he turned to me and grabbed my shoulder. He steered me away to what appeared to be a staff room. I looked and saw Pure Vanilla watch me and my father leave.
My father stopped and closed the door. He looked at me. I couldn't read his expression.
"You're alive."
He spoke, almost unsure. I nodded. He nodded in return.
"The kingdom.. It's really fallen?"
I nodded again, before looking down. I knew a lot of the cookies there. I was raised with them after all. It was also bad news to me, but I had my time to mourn. My father kneeled, holding onto his sword for support.
"I was a fool.. I thought the walls would hold."
"You aren't a fool. I believed they may have too."
His father looked back up at him. Behind the grief he could see determination as well.
"They're all gone? Caramel Arrow, Crunchy Chip.. All of them?"
"From what I could see.."
He sighed and shook his head, before pushing himself to his feet.
"I'm sorry, my son. All this means now is.. I must protect the others around me. I will not let them suffer the same fate."
With that he turned back and left. I stood there, left staring after him.
