Monday morning, Crys and Brandon were up bright and early, much to their disappointment. The two of them had their near-daily walk to school to take, so they quickly ate some breakfast after getting ready for school and headed out the door. When they got there, there was absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. It was peaceful, just like it had been for the past month.
"Hey, Brandon?" Crys asked while the two of them were meandering down the hallway to their first class.
"Hmm?" Brandon replied, still a bit tired and not all there.
"I don't want to jinx us, but it's been pretty quiet lately, hasn't it?"
Brandon took a second to process what Crys said. "What makes you say that?"
"I don't know. I'm just not used to it being so... peaceful. I mean, we get back from winter break and... nothing. No one targeting us in school, no insane lunatics trying to take over the world or something like that, not a lot of crime to stop at night. Nothing." Crys looked around a little, seeming a tad antsy.
"I'd say that's a good thing." Brandon replied with a shrug. He looked at Crys and saw her idly messing with her hair. She was looking pretty unfocused. "You okay?"
"Yeah." Crys said a bit unconvincingly. "I'm just... I'm just worried that something bad is going to happen." She added on, knowing Brandon would've just asked if she hadn't said anything. "So, it's just nerves, I guess. Nothing else."
"Did you have another nightmare last night?" Brandon asked, wondering if that might be why Crys had nerves.
"No, thankfully." Crys said with relief. "Just a normal dream for once."
"Glad to hear." Brandon replied genuinely, with some level of relief in his tone as well.
"Well, we should probably shut up about werewolf stuff since we're about to get to class." Crys said at the door to their classroom.
"Yeah, probably." Brandon said back.
They went into class.
A few hours later, once the boring morning classes were finally over, it was time for nearly every student's favorite time of day: lunch. As Crys was making her way over to the usual lunch table along with Brandon, she listened in on some of the conversations she was passing by.
"I heard Cheryl had a new boyfriend." Said a person in one group. Crys rolled her eyes and listened for something more interesting.
"The werewolf is stupid." Said someone at a different table. "It's just some deranged person going around in a costume." Now this was a comment that was worth Crys' time.
"What do you mean? The werewolf is totally real!" Commented someone else at that same table.
"Yeah right, we all know any of that werewolf garbage was just hallucinations. Whoever is going around and beating people up is not a werewolf." The first person responded. "And besides, you're telling me there's only one werewolf? Yeah right."
"You don't know what you're talking about." Replied the second person.
Crys moved on, not needing to hear the two of them argue any more. She didn't really care what others thought of her, but it was still fun to hear what people had to say. Just a moment later, she sat down at the usual lunch table in the usual spot with the usual people.
"Hey everyone." Crys said, even though 'everyone' only consisted of two people. Brandon took his seat next to her.
"Hi, Crys." Tomas replied while Emma just nodded.
"How's it going?" Crys asked.
"Pretty good." Tomas continued. "Classes have been boring as usual, but I have practice after school today, so I'm looking forward to that."
