Miles

"Hey, Mare!" My dog leaped onto me, dripping slobber all over my hands. "You hungry?" I got a bark in response. "I'll take that as a yes."

I got some kibble from the pantry, pouring some into her bowl. She was about to dig in until we heard a knock on the door. She barked like crazy.

"Mare, calm down!" I opened the door and met eyes with Alex.

"Hi Mile- AWWW IS THIS MARE!?" Mare immediately hugged Alex, covering him with kisses. "Nice to meet you, Mare!" He giggled.

"Looks like she already loves you!" I say, joining in on the fun. "Come in, Alex!"

Both Alex and Mare trot inside. "Woah, Miles! Your house looks so nice!" He started to inspect my plants and decorations. I then heard a loud gasp.

"You play guitar too!?" Alex admires the instrument. "Why didn't you ever tell me?"

"Ehh, I never thought that it was important." I patted Mare on the head.

I noticed Alex about to pick up my guitar. "Can I play it?"

"Of course." I sat down next to him.

Alex started to strum a tune I wasn't familiar with, but it was beautiful. It felt like I was taking a nice stroll, nature surrounding me in every nook and cranny. I really was only expecting him to play, but he sung as well, making my heart flutter. Even Mare was silenced by his singing.

"There's glass in the park
Darling, I can't help but keep making appointments
To sweep beneath the climbing frame

If the sun's in your eyes,
I'll tighten your blindfold, baby
Don't worry your foot won't get cut
Strut carelessly..." He muted the guitar after, turning red in embarrassment.

"Alex, that was fucking beautiful!" I exclaim, followed by Mare's barks.

Alex's eyes shined. "Really?"

"That was one of the best things I've ever heard, especially from someone I just met yesterday!"

"I dunno, it's just that sometimes I think my lyrics aren't that good, y'know..."

"So you're telling me..." I started to escalate my voice. "YOU MADE THAT SONG!?" My face brightened, beaming in amazement. "You should really upload your songs online!"

Alex nods as Mare crawls onto his lap, taking his attention away from him.

"Well, since we're talking about music, my band has a gig coming up in two days! Would you wanna come?" He continued to pet Mare.

"You bet I'll come!" I playfully punched his arm. "Where's it at?"

"The local pub that's a few blocks away from the library." He smiled.

I nod and head to my kitchen to make some food. I saw the oven was still filled with cookies, still fresh from this morning. The oven was filled with the scent of baked batter, pleasing my nostrils.

"What's that smell, Miles?" Alex jolted his head toward me. I pull out the tray, revealing the heavenly baked disks. Seeing this, Alex gently removes Mare from his lap and discards my guitar. He runs over to me to see the cookies better.

"Want some?" I'm about to bite into a cookie, but Alex leans his head forward and bites it instead.

"Woah, those are good." Alex says, trying to hold in his laugh.

I stare at him with an "are you serious" look, making him finally release his cackle. I eat the rest of my half-bitten cookie, enjoying the rest of it.

Alex

I start to feel my phone buzzing. "Oh Miles, I need to step outside real quick, my band mate's calling me."

"No problem, I'll be here."

"What's wrong, Matt?" I say after answering the call.

"Just asking if you're ready for our gig! I'm hella pumped up!"

"Yeah, don't worry about it."

"You somewheee right now? Ohhhh waiiit are you on some date with that bloke you met the other day?" He teasingly says.

"Sh-shut up!" I shout in the phone, my cheeks burning red.

Matt laughs right into the mic.

"But I really do kinda like him though..." I admit.

"What's good about that guy anyway?"

"Everything. I really like everything about him. I dunno know explain it... I'm not good with love."

That was the cringiest thing you've ever said. I thought to myself.

"Well okay, as long as you're safe it's all good with me."

"Thanks, Matt."

"Anyway, have fun with your boyfriennnnd!" He laughs again. Before I could respond, the drummer ends the call.

Miles

I guess it was too good to be true. I listened to Alex's side of the conversation. How could I be so stupid to think someone could fall in love inless than a day?

But I did.

That's one lucky guy.

Alex walks back in, as red as a tomato.

"Woah- Alex, you okay?" I ask. "Do you need an ice pack?"

"Y-yeah."

I grab a small ice pack from the freezer and place it onto his forehead. I start to choke back a laugh looking at Alex. He was way too red.

"What's so funny?" He cocked an eyebrow.

"S-sorry it's just that you look like a t-tomato." I struggled to keep my laugh in.

"Oh, stop it!" He buried his face in his hands and let out tiny giggles. I then saw something catch Alex's attention.

"Miles, look!" He dragged me by the hand to my balcony, opening the glass sliding door. "Look how pretty!" Our hands rest on the railings, wishing we could get closer to the light. I felt Alex's fingertips on my hand, holding it tightly.

"It's beautiful." I say.

Not as beautiful as you, though.
