the kids piled into the classroom slowly, knowing what they had to do today. they dragged out their entire passing period until the bell rang for the class to start. none of them took out their supplies, sitting in their assigned seats with their leg bouncing up and down, lips in between their teeth, and short breathes exhaling. the teacher stayed silent, holding in any sort of noise that dared to escape out of instinct.
the teacher was still sat at their desk, clicking their computer mouse continuously and scrolling through their students assignments.
jisung sat in his seat, swaying side to side, nervous as well. today was the start of their presentations of what they researched for months; his shared script and power point finished way before the deadline. however, jisung wasn't nervous to stand up in front of his class full of eager eyes and busy pens, it was the fact he needed to present with minho: his crush, an relationship still left unlabeled, confirmation for him to be his boyfriend still undetermined.
"alright," the teacher started. they smiled brightly as they walked to the front of the classroom, scanning the students shaking eyes. "i know you're all nervous, and it's okay to be!"
each student looked around the room, making eye contact with their partners as if they communicated and shared comforting words just through their eyes. there was a connection that was strong enough to make a presence in times of anxious events which set their racing hearts at ease.
"i've looked through everyone's scripts and such— which most was turned in really early—— this day to present has probably made you all so anxious." the teacher continued to talk.
minho was just like the other students. his back way leaned all the way back on his chair, one leg stretched out while the other moved up and down at the speed his heart went; his arms crossed as his eyes averted to his empty desk. he let out a big sigh in an attempt to steady his breathing. he wasn't trying to remember his own script; though, he replayed jisungs confession that happened a day before. he closed his eyes and rolled them in frustration as he played the part where he changed the conversation.
minho talked about something else right after jisung confessed. regret and agony roamed through him as the decision sat and processed for him.
"so, because i saw how prepared you are and the time you all put into this project, i've decided the presentation will no longer be mandatory. though, any group can still present their work for extra credit." the teacher happily smiled.
the students eyes lightened up, some finally making eye contact with their teacher in relief.
"see? i told you they weren't gonna make us do it!" minhos friend who sat behind him tapped his shoulder. minho turned around with a smile.
"maybe you should do it— you need extra credit." he joked. minho only received a small ruffle to his hair as a response from his friend as he turned back around to face the front of the room. his eyes stopped a point once it made contact with jisungs.
jisung smiled softly at him once he realized they were both looking at each other. minho waved cheekily, giggling in his seat. jisung waved back. minho decided to try and tell the boy something, his crush being all the way at the other side of the room with filled up desks between them; only praying he could lip read.
"hang out after school?" minho talked with no noise. jisungs eyebrows scrunched up in confusion, unable to decipher his words. minho repeated himself, adding hand movements.
jisung bursted out laughing as he looked at him, covering his mouth to shut himself up before someone called him out. minhos hand covered his eyes in embarrassment, chuckling to himself as well.
jisung pointed the the front of the classroom with his head tilted to signal a question, "present?" jisung mouthed. minhos eyes widened and he shook his head quickly in fear. jisung laughed, raising his hand anyways.
"jisung? do you guys want to present?" the teacher called out to him. jisung nodded, shooting a side eye to minho as the other boy covered his face.
jisung made his way up to the front of the class, "this will be graded individually, don't worry." the teacher whispered to him, knowing that it was a regular thing jisung would question.
jisung awkwardly shuffled his way to the side so he wouldn't block the projector that displayed their project, minho joining him on the opposite side with the same amount of awkwardness in his step.
"i hate you for this." minho whispered towards jisung only for the other to chuckle.
"you love me," jisung whispered back. "just make eye contact with the teacher, not the students."
"for someone who hates looking at eyes, you sure do love having them on you."
jisungs eyebrows raised in surprised, angry he couldn't playfully slap minhos arm in frustration, "just your eyes." he whispered back before the teacher told them to start.
"you did it on purpose!" minho rebutted. he flew his arms in the air as he walked alongside with jisung out of their class.
jisung shrugged his shoulders, cocking his head to the side pretending he did nothing wrong, "i thought you wanted to present, i don't know how to read lips." he teased.
minho rolled his eyes with a chuckle, "i think i made it REALLY obvious i was saying 'no' to that."
jisung could only smile at minho as they continued to walk. silence fell between them despite the halls of hurried students walking around them to their next class. minho but his lip to shut himself up, afraid he would start saying things he shouldn't.
"so hang out after school?" jisung asked before they split ways. minhos eyes widened in joy, unexpectedly hearing jisungs offer although the asked first.
minho nodded, "yeah, if you're free."
"let's get sushi," jisung smiled, tugging at minhos shirt sleeve, stopping him from drifting away with the crowded halls. minho could only show a downward smile, relieved that things would naturally fix themselves between them. "i'm not letting you change the subject this time."
jisung let go of minho, walking away and disappearing to his next class. minho quickly turned around in the direction he was supposed to go in, feeling his heart beat pounding on his chest. the sudden dominance of jisung filling him with nervousness and excitement.
minho could only count the seconds until he could predict what could happen after school.
