The next day Izzie felt fine, in fact, better than fine. She was hoping that whatever had happened the night before was a fluke, some draft that only hit her and Will. She was trying to convince herself everything was fine, because everything was fine.

"Okay, those are mine, and these are all I could find in my mom's room." Izzie said, dumping a basket filled with different nail polish colours on her bed. "What colour were you thinking?"

Despite Izzie insistence that she was fine, Max could tell something was wrong and had slept over at Izzie's house, not that she was complaining.

Dustin was coming back from his science camp that day, and Izzie was super excited. He had written her a letter saying he had something exciting to tell her when he came back. Dustin's mother had told them Dustin would be back at 2, so the party was gonna surprise him.

Though Izzie and Max still had an hour and a half until they had to leave, so they were going to paint their nails.

"Hmm, I don't know." Max hummed with her head resting on her hand, though she wasn't even looking, she was staring at Izzie. "You pick for me."

Izzie chuckled, picking up a deep blue colour. "What about this? It matches your eyes."

"Absolutely."

Izzie laughed again, looking down bashfully. "I'll do this green, and we can both do our pinkies with this." She held up a light purple. "So we can match."

"Great idea." Max smiled.

"Okay, lemme do yours first." Izzie shook the bottle of polish and opened it then grabbed Max's hand.

She was on the third nail when her bedroom door was slammed open. With a startled jolt, Izzie smudged the polish and almost dropped the brush onto her covers. Izzie's head snapped up, her eyes narrowing when she spotted her brother in his ridiculous sailor costume.

"What the hell!" She cried. "Steve you asshole, you made me mess up!"

Steve wasn't even paying attention to her.

"She's back!" He panted, sweating dripping down his forehead. "She's back, she's back, she's back!" He cheered, leaving the support of Izzie's door frame to start pacing in her room.

Izzie looked at Max, both their faces screwed up in confusion.

"Who's back?" Max asked, picking at the smudged polish on the side of her finger. Izzie reached forward and got the nail polish remover to rub it off.

"The girl we met at the store last October, you know, with Dustin." Steve explained, starting to snap his fingers as he looked for her name. "Um, what was it . . . Jessie! Yes Jessie!"

Izzie bit her cheek, finally realising who he was talking about. "Ohhh right! That really pretty girl that made you completely lose your game!" She laughed, turning to her girlfriend to explain. "When he saw her, he just stood there like an idiot not saying anything."
