And given everything else going on in his life right now, it would probably take even longer.

He let out a sigh and reached for the coffee he had brought in that morning. He had picked up Weiying’s latte and taken it directly to his office, ignoring the side-eyes he received from some of the other employees. He had been there already, bright-eyed and dressed crisply in slacks and a blazer. His brown hair was pulled back into a cute little ponytail and when he had smiled at him, Lanzhan had suddenly understood the meaning of the phrase take one’s breath away. And then he had mentally kicked his own ass for it.

It had been strange being alone in his apartment. The silence had been crushing without his, and Lanzhan had felt...lost. Once Weiying had left, he’d puttered around the apartment drinking beer and doing nothing productive but feeling the need to do something . He had a cleaning service that came in once a week, so there wasn’t anything to clean. He didn’t watch much television, so that was out. He tried to read a book, but he just couldn’t get into it. In the end, he’d thrown on a pair of joggers and his running shoes and gone for a run.

He hadn’t stopped until sweat dripped down his back and his lungs burned. Then he’d gone back to the apartment, taken a shower (and forced himself not to think about the fact that Weiying had been in his bathroom that morning, wrapped in nothing but a towel, and he’d gotten a fantastic fucking view of his beautiful body), and had fallen into bed, thoroughly exhausted.

And now he was working, with Weiying just across the floor in his own snazzy office, a million and one thoughts running through his mind and none of them having anything at all to do with the paperwork he was trying to concentrate on.

His mother and Brother were coming out for a few weeks. Would they stay in a hotel? Or would they want to stay in his guest room? Lanzhan knew it was likely that Sizhui would want to stay with him, which meant that no matter what, Weiying would be in his room.

Sharing a room hadn’t been so bad at his parents’ house, but that was only two nights, one of which they’d slept in the same bed (fuck, he could not think about that right now). Three weeks on his bedroom floor would be miserable. And having his mom and Brother around for that length of time would be tedious. He’d have to be the doting fiancé almost 24/7. And Weiying would, too.

Maybe he should just tell his mom the truth. She was his mother; she would have to back him up, right? But involving more people in this scam could be dangerous. It was enough that Meng Yao and Xichen knew the truth. No, he couldn’t tell his mom, not unless she directly asked.

So now he got to spend three weeks sleeping on the floor of his own bedroom.

Lanzhan exhaled deeply and pinched his hair, still holding the cup of coffee in one hand. He raised it to take a drink when someone knocked on his office door.

He let out another sigh and set the coffee down. “Come in.”

The door opened and Chang Ping poked his head in. It was still a surprise to see someone else come through his door instead of Weiying. It had always been his, with his warm Smile and bright eyes.

And now it was...Chang Ping. Who Weiying thought wanted to sleep with him. And maybe, if things were different, he wouldn’t mind sleeping with his. he was pretty enough, flirty enough, and he always wore super tight jeans and blouses that revealed just enough skin to be enticing. But Lanzhan wasn’t interested at all. And he was kind of a shitty assistant.

“Mr. Lan, your uncle would like to see you,” Chang Ping told him.

Lanzhan released a breath. “Thanks.”

Chang Ping left, and Lanzhan stood up. He hadn’t gotten a chance to talk to his uncle since he and Weiying had been back. He could only assume it had to do with that .
