Chapter-14

“What?” Weiying gasped. He thought about how Lanzhan had reacted when he brought up their honeymoon. Was this why?

Xichen nodded. “I mean, it’s all under the guise of making your engagement look real, but it was my idea. But I knew he’d be too much of a chicken-shit to ask, so I brought it up to our mother. she thought it was a wonderful idea.”

“But why? Why does it matter so much to you?” Weiying wanted to know.

Xichen shrugged. “It’s a nice place. I think the two of you will enjoy it. And you could both probably use a vacation when all of this is said and done.”

“You can say that again,” Weiying muttered in agreement.

“Then There you go.” Xichen smiled at Him. “Now what about a swimsuit? The water there is always warm.”

The thought of swimming outdoors in water that wasn’t cold did sound enticing, so Weiying followed Xichen over to the swimwear section only slightly grudgingly.

Flashback End

He’d done alright without having a sexual partner for over a year (and it seemed like Lanzhan was doing the same, and he hadn’t made a pass at his or even brought it up in any degree), but now He was thinking about the possibility of not having sex for five years, and it was hard to not think about it. That was a long time.

He definitely wasn’t thinking of striking a deal with Lanzhan like Xichen insinuated, but since their marriage was a show (Xichen’s words, he would, you know. He’s so desperate to stay that he would do anything you asked that constantly haunted him), would it be wrong of them to sleep with other people? Weiying didn’t think so, and it was definitely a conversation that they needed to have. But He wasn’t sure how to broach the subject with Lanzhan, so He didn’t.

Everyone sat down in the living room to eat once they’d gotten their food. Weiying and Madam Lan refilled their wine glasses while Lanzhan got a beer. Sizhui briefly searched for something to watch on Netflix before settling on a rom-com that Weiying had seen a few years ago. It was cute though, so He didn’t mind a rewatch.

Once they were finished eating, Weiying and Lanzhan curled up on the love seat in their familiar routine. Weiying draped his legs over his lap and he wrapped one hand around his shoulders, his thumb stroking his arm as he rested his other hand on his ankle. His skin was warm, as it always was, and Weiying was soothed by it.

He continued to sip his wine until his head buzzed and his nose had a numb, tingly feeling to it. He was bordering on drunk, and He knew He ought to switch to water (or at least slow down), but everything had been so stressful over the last month or so, and it felt good to unwind.

So Weiying relaxed into Lanzhan, resting his head against his shoulder as He half-watched the movie. One of his hands stretched over his lap until his fingers could just brush the material of his shirt, and He traced his finger lightly over his stomach. Lanzhan shifted slightly under his touch, his hand tightening around his shoulders for a brief moment. his gaze flickered to him for a moment, but his eyes were on the TV.

His thoughts drifted back to what Xichen had said. Weiying would never ask him to sleep with his to get some perk or benefit out of this...but maybe, maybe , they could make the most out of this? Because, logistically speaking, even if they did come to some agreement about seeing other people, it would be complicated trying to navigate a relationship without getting caught by whoever they were sleeping with, or deciding to be honest about their marriage. And while Weiying wasn’t a sex-friend by any means, He wasn’t exactly a nun. The last fifteen months had been long and dry like a drought, and sitting curled up next to Lanzhan’s warmth was waking a beast inside of him.
