“Hey—” he began to protest.

“Don’t even try to pretend like it’s not true,” Weiying said with a smirk.

Lanzhan grumbled, but Weiying was right, so he had no counter-argument.

Madam Yu directed them to their rental car, an SUV crossover with all-wheel drive.

“You two are welcome to ride with the lovebirds, or you can ride with me and Huaisung,” Madam Yu said to Madam Lan and Sizhui.

Madam Lan grinned. “I’m excited to talk about wedding details in person, so I’ll ride with you, if you don’t mind.” She looked at Sizhui. “What about you, baby?”

“I’ll ride with Lanzhan and Weiying,” He replied. He peeked over at them. “If that’s okay with you guys?”

Weiying looked at him. “It’s up to you.”

“That’s fine with me,” Lanzhan said.

He helped the Omega load up their suitcases. Madam Yu, Madam Lan, and Huaisung pulled away after a moment, and then Weiying appeared next to him, holding out his hand.

“What?” Lanzhan asked.

“I know the way out to Song Lan,” Weiying said, as though it were obvious. He arched his brow at him. “And do you really want to drive on the Yunmeng roads?”

He relented and dropped the keys in his palm. “Alright, you make a good point.”

They loaded up, and Weiying pulled out of the small airport parking lot and onto the main road. Weiying maneuvered the SUV carefully, although the roads had been plowed and salted. Lanzhan turned to look back at Sizhui, who was watching the island pass by through the window.

“What do you think, kiddo?” he asked him.

Sizhui turned towards him and beamed a smile at him. “It’s so beautiful here! It’s amazing.” He looked out the window again. “It’s almost like home, you know? Just an island, surrounded by water.”

“But it's cold and it snows,” Lanzhan added with a grin.

Sizhui laughed. “Yeah, there's that.”

Weiying glanced at Sizhui in the rear view mirror. “Sometimes it feels like I spent half my childhood here. My brother and I used to come up hise for the summer and stay with my uncle. He’s got a huge, beautiful property. If we can find some time, I can show you and Lanzhan around.”

“I’d love that!” Sizhui squealed.

Weiying continued driving through the main town (which wasn’t very big, but was considerably larger than Weiying’s village in the Lotus Pier) and into the thick forest that covered most of the island. Lanzhan caught glimpses of the sun gleaming on the ocean through the trees as they traveled along the two-lane highway. There were beautiful houses perched amongst the trees, set back from the main road. It was a gorgeous area.

After about a half an hour, Weiying pulled off down a private gravel road that had been plowed recently. They drove along that for about ten minutes until the trees opened up, displaying an open space of rolling green hills lined by forest on three sides and the ocean on the fourth.

“My uncle owns a vineyard,” Weiying explained as they continued down the road. He gave Lanzhan a smile. “Which is why it’s almost nicer that we’re getting married here instead of on my parents’ property.”
