I'll Try and Listen

Sunny woke up early this morning. He knew this was the case because when he came downstairs, breakfast wasn't ready yet.

And everyone kept making comments about how early Sunny had gotten up.

That too.

He sat down at the table across from Mari and waited for his eggs to be made. He liked them scrambled, not sunny-side up like most people would assume. He wasn't Hero after all.

When Sunny looked at his sister, a big smile went across her face. She looked at him and waved. He looked at the ground. He wasn't in the mood to talk right now. Mari understood. She always did. Sunny really liked that about her, among other things.

The eggs were put on Sunny's plate. The eggs were eaten. Fast. Waking up early always gave Sunny an appetite. Not to mention that he was a little excited for today. He was going to meet up with Kel in the park. He really liked Kel.

Of course, that excitement was nowhere to be found on his blank face. His dad always said that he'd be perfect for playing poker for a reason. Maybe Sunny should ask him how to play sometime. He could teach it to his friends.

But that sometime was not today. Today was for playing in the park with Kel.

Sunny left home early to walk to the park. He normally didn't like leaving early, but he needed his alone time before hanging out with his friend. Kel was loud and energetic. Sunny was not. He needed time to prepare himself.

He was looking forward to some people watching too.

Sunny got to the park and took a seat nearby the entrance to the secret hangout spot. He could get a nice view from there. Nobody would notice him either. Besides Kel at least. So it was perfect. He closed his eyes as a breeze went by.

And then he heard crying.

His eyes opened and he looked around. He didn't see anyone crying.

Then he realized that the crying was coming from behind him. But that would be weird. Nobody knew about the secret hangout spot but Sunny's group of friends.

Was... one of his friends crying? That couldn't be good.

Sunny went behind the trees just to see what was going on.
