Carlos POV

When the words 'I am your father' left my mouth I was instantly in a whirlwind of emotions. It brought me to realisation that I in fact was a father. I had my own son. He looked so much like me it was terrifying. From his deep brown eyes and his fluffy hair, he looked like the exact younger version of me. But I was also filled with fear.

Would he accept me?

Would he hate me for not being there?

Would he hate Hayley for not telling him?

What is going to happen between Hayle-

My thoughts are interrupted by his high pitch squeals of excitement. He wraps his arms around my waist and bounds from toe to toe in enthusiasm. "I take that as good new hey?" I laugh.

"YES YES YES YES." He screams. I watch as he rushes down the hallway and bursts into the dining room. "MA, PA, DANNY GUESS WHAT?"

"I'm glad he's happy." Hayley says as she stares at the door frame where Diego had previously been.

"Me too," I say. "Are you happy?"

"I- I don't know Carlos." She sighs, sitting on the bed. "I don't know where to go from here."

"Can you promise me one thing?" I ask sitting down beside her and grabbing her hand. I make small circles with my thumb on her hand as I watch her look towards me.

"What is it?"

"You won't leave me?" I grab a strand of her hair and tuck it behind her ear.

"I promise Carlos," She smiles. "But I can't promise a relationship or anything like that. I just need you to be in Diego's life."

"I'm okay with that." Of course I'm not okay with that. "For now." I smirk. I watch her cheeks flush bright red as Diego rushes back into the room.

"Mumma, Papa, lunch is ready." Diego says jumping onto my lap.

"I like being called papa." I laugh. "Even if it makes me feel old."

"I can call you Dad if you want?" Diego suggests.

"You can call me whatever you like Di."

"Okay Daddy. Can we go eat now?"

"Of course," Hayley smiles. As Diego runs back out the room I stop infront of Hayley. "Yes?"

"Hayley." I stutter. "I don't really know what I'm doing. I don't know how to be a dad."

"Trust me C, you're doing great." She says kissing me on the cheek and leaving the room.

The rest of the dinner runs smoothly, Hayley, Daniel and their parents update me on Diego's life. I'm filled with joy knowing that Hayley's family has accepted me. Diego tugs on my sleeve and looks up to me with begging eyes. "Daddy can you come play with me outside?"

My eyes almost water at the sound of him calling me 'daddy'. He's so cute. "Of course, can your mother come too?"

"I guess so." He shrugs pulling both Hayley and I towards the sliding door leading to the huge lawn outside. I give Hayley a light hearted smile and pick up Diego.

"Wanna play wizzy dizzy?" I ask Diego.

"What's that?" He questions.

"Say yes and you'll find out."

"Okay, yes, I wanna play wizthy dizthy." He says, his slight lisp present. Behind him, I pick him up from beneath his armpits and begin swinging him in a circle. Picking up the pace, Diego starts screaming with excitement. "Faster! Faster!" He squeals.

I once again go faster looking over at Hayley who has a worried look plastered across her face. I slow Diego down and place him down on the grass.

"Why'd you stop? I wanna go again!" He whines.

"A bit later Di, my arms are sore." I lie, making sure Hayley is comfortable with how I treat our son. Diego pats the grass beside him motioning for Hayley and I to sit beside him.

"Papi?" He questions.

"Yes Di?"

"Can mama and I come watch your next race?" He says with begging eyes.

"Of course Di, only if your mum wants to as well."

"I- um. Diegs I can't keep taking work off, I have bills to pay and a house to look after." She says, knowing how disappointed Diego is. "But maybe one weekend won't hurt." I smile at her last comment and Diego jumps up with excitement.

"Thank you mama! I can't wait!" He says wrapping his arms around Hayley's neck, almost choking her. "I'm gonna go tell Daniel and ma and pa." And with that he rushes back inside, almost tripping over with the speed he was going at.

"Hayley." I grab her attention. "I want to help pay bills and stuff."

"No no no, Carlos. I can't ask you to do that." She says with panic written across her face.

"You're not asking. I am offering." I smile.

"Well I decline your offer."

I furrow my brows unsure why she is being so stubborn. "I take that back, I'm not offering. I'm telling you to let me help you out."

"But-"

"No buts. If I'm not allowed to do it for you, I'm doing it for Diego." I say, knowing I've well and truly won the argument. I place a hand over Hayley's forearm and look at her dead in the eye. "You can't get rid of me amor. I'm here to stay."
