'Tomioka,' Shinobu spoke smoothly.
He sighed and turned around to look at her.
'Yes, Kocho?' Giyu replied wearily.
Noticing his annoyance, her smile turned into a grimace, though she couldn't hide that she was hurt by the way he spoke to her.
'You know,' she began, her voice breaking, 'this is why you have no friends,'
Turning away, she started her journey back to her Mansion. Giyu, meanwhile, was staring at her, confused at her reaction.
...
Shinobu finally arrived back home. She decided to devote the next few days to training her tsuguko. Kanao was evolving her abilities and strength at a fast pace, which made Shinobu feel proud. Once they were done with the training for Wednesday, Shinobu sat down, looking up at the sky, which was getting steadily darker. Staring up at the moon, she suddenly remembered the night when she and Giyu had been called to assist a couple of Mizunotos in their mission.
'The moon looks beautiful tonight, doesn't it?' she had asked him.
Could he have understood what she had wanted to say?
A small figure was approaching her.
'Ah, Aoi! There you are!' Shinobu called out, gradually standing up, 'What's the matter?' she asked, noting the nervous look on Aoi's face.
'Um...I accidentally gave Inosuke Hashibira the wrong dosage of a sleeping pill and now he's crawling on the ceiling.'
'What?!'
Aoi looked down. Shinobu sighed and ruffled her hair.
'It's fine, I'll sort this out.'
...
'There we go. He should be fine now,'
She turned to Aoi, 'Why don't you go to bed? It is pretty late, after all,'
As Aoi walked out of the infirmary, Shinobu heard a familiar sound.
'CAW!'
'CAW!'
She opened the window to let the crow in.
'Yes?'
'Shinobu Kocho and Giyu Tomioka are to meet in Wakayama. Suspected demon activity. Three known disappearances.'
She groaned. Eventually, Shinobu plucked up the will to go to her room and accumulate everything she needed for the mission.
Having taken the train to Wakayama, she arrived faster then she would have otherwise. She looked around to find Giyu, though the city was almost completely covered in darkness.
'Hello Kocho,' a voice on her left suddenly murmured.
Surprised, she whipped around. Giyu Tomioka was standing in the middle of the street. Still frustrated with him, she greeted him coldly.
'Any information on the demon?'
'No,'
After having asked around about the attacks (of course, without mentioning the demons), they deduced that the demons were hiding in one of the highest grossing companies of the city.
'So, how do you think we shall proceed?' Giyu asked.
'I don't know, but since you're such an amazing slayer, perhaps you should decide,' she said sarcastically.
'What?' Giyu looked beyond confused.
'Nothing, nevermind,' she sighed, 'I was thinking that, maybe, we could wear masks to make sure they can't see us. That way, we could jump in through the windows and pretend to be robbers. Then, we-'
'If we do that, the police will start to investigate. Maybe we should destroy them from the inside,'
'Hmm...there are two companies, so you take a job in that one and I'll go with this one,' she proposed, pointing at each in turn.
'Right. As we work there, we investigate the buildings and report what we've found,'
'Fine,'
...
'So, Ms Kocho...the only free position we have is the assistant. If you would like it, we're happy to give it to you,' a tall man in a formal suit told her.
'Hmm...what does the job include?'
'Well, you'll be preparing coffee, adding information to the database, organizing desks, etc.'
'Oh! I do that on a daily basis, so I could definitely do it here!'
'In that case, congratulations! The job is yours. Though you need to wait a little longer to discuss the details. You may begin right away,'
'I see. Thank you so much!'
...
Looking around the building, nothing seemed unusual. Though, she did notice something weird about the workers. A large number seemed to be wearing sunglasses, despite the fact that the only source of light were the computer screens. She started to think that maybe they were simply hiding their demonic eyes, which were a tell-tale sign. Suddenly, her thoughts were interrupted by a worker who requested a cup of coffee.
...
'So, did you find anything?' Shinobu asked her accomplice once they had met outside.
'No. You?'
'There was nothing strange in the building, but there was something about the workers...more than half of them were wearing sunglasses. I think they've been using that as a way to hide their eyes from people who could recognize demons,'
'Were these high-ranking workers?'
After a split-second of silence, Shinobu snapped her fingers.
'Yes! Even the interviewer had glasses on!'
'Looks like we've got a lead,' Giyu commented calmly.
