The days that Bella spent at Pheonix were torturous for the Swan family. All of the calls had been returned unanswered, and no text messages had been read. The only way they knew she was okay was through Jasper, who had been periodically checking in with Milly.
Then they got a call from Renee, scolding them for not being able to look after her daughter. Bella had apparently gone through a window in a hotel room, trying to get away from her ex-boyfriend. Strangely, however, she quickly got back together with him and decided that he was the sole reason for her wanting to stay in Forks.
Between the hate that Bella projected onto her sister and the constant worry that clouded her mind, Milly found herself spending every waking moment thinking about her big sister. She knew that it was strange, especially after what Bella had said, but she couldn't bring herself to hate her. Jacob had tried to reason with her, saying that "She won't spare a glance for you, so why are you feeling so responsible for her?". Even the usually easygoing Seth had strong words to say about Bella. "She's your big sister, Mils. You shouldn't be trying to look out for her."
Milly's heart was so big that she became an easy target for those who did not value her or who abused her generosity for their own gain. Milly often ends up in situations where she is drained and exploited or where she is deceived by others who do not care about her emotions. She is a compassionate and selfless person who always sacrifices her own needs for others, even at the expense of her own happiness.
Bella figured this out quickly, and when it came to apologising, she didn't have to try too hard to get forgiveness. After that, all Bella needed to do was not outwardly express hostility to her younger sister.
Soon, Milly believed that they were back on good terms. Everything that had happened in the past few months was behind them, and they could move forward with a strong, sisterly relationship.
Until Bella takes it again. This time, ties break between more pairs outside of her and her 'soulmate'.
