the piercing sound of a years-old chain is the first thing the teen notices. if that wasn't enough of a concern, the cold metal box that provided no means of an exit had heightened her senses much more. it was dark, but her eyes easily adjust to the darkness, the few lights of the walls that sealed her in helping her deduce where she was. touch was the only sense she could truly rely on at the moment, feeling around her cage to find she wasn't alone; wooden crates sealed with nails were thrown in along with her. one material however, was unlike any other, it was flat, thin, and smooth. the edges were soft but tattered, albeit one edge which drew a drop of blood as she ran her finger across too fast for its liking. the teen sucks in a sharp breath at the sensation and instinctively brings her hand to her mouth. as she passes another light for a split second, she realizes she was holding a note. crawling to the side of the cage closest to the lights that were plastered on the walls, she waits for a flash to read the words. hoping to find an answer to her predicament, she instead finds a cryptic message.

"her blood." it read. the writing was rather messy, making expression harden and her heart beat faster.

the hair on her arms shift to a stand and her breathing becomes erratic. the feeling of impending danger creeping up in her veins and makes its way to fill every organ, limb, and bone in her body. the note leads her to believe that wherever she was being sent to, she is being sent with the intention of being killed. with that conclusion, she tries to remember; with the hope that if she somehow got in the cage, she would use it as a way out. when nothing comes to mind, she tries to remember anything; achievements, family, friends, and life-changing experiences and yet she is hit with another dead end. this situation starts to weigh in on her chest and the feeling of nausea crashes into her like a high tide.

her name, how could she forget such a defining part of ones life? she thought; her heart aching at the mere thought of it. whoever put her here must be a monster to take away the only thing she had left of them.

however, a thought calms her, albeit not fully; after all, she is still stuck in a metal cage that refuses to come back the way it came until she reaches her destination. when looking at the situation at hand, she concludes that she must have been in much more danger before being trapped in this cage in order to get here. she admits that the reassurance would not be very comforting to the average person, but she comes to terms with it and finds herself grateful she is- what she thinks is- far from that prior danger and fails to recollect any of it.

while in the moment of reconciliation between herself and the situation at hand, the cage finally comes to a stop; suddenly might she add. the halting of movement sent her flying back down, having her rub her left arm which took the brunt of the fall.

however, she forgets that pain the moment she hears voices, not being able to understand what they are saying only makes the anticipation of escape send tingles down her spine. when a blinding light dips through the opening above her, the teen feels a slap of vulnerability, whatever these people were going to do to her, they best do it now when she's blinded, she rationalizes internally. shrinking back into the farthest corner of the cage, she feels a rattle, and her eyes slowly adjust to the light to see a boy had jumped down into the box.

"it- it's a girl" he states as if it was the most unnatural event to come out of today (she finds it incredible how they don't even acknowledge the fact she came out of a metal box and can't remember anything)

when she acknowledges the voices that respond, she fails to hear any that sound similar to hers. a knot forms in her stomach as she observes that she was in fact, the only girl; and that these boys had a valid reason to concern themselves as to why a girl is there with them.
