"June 30th, 1985" [Episode 1] "Suzy, Do You Copy?" [Stranger Things 3]
[Y/N POV]
"I'm just saying, you're not doing yourself any favors." Heather taunts as she stacks kick boards onto the supply shelf. You roll your eyes and throw a pool noodle at her. She laughs when it hits her head, leaning down to pick it up.
"I just don't want to freak him out, ya'know? I don't know for sure how he feels about me." You take the pool noodle from her and stick it back into the box.
"You never know until you ask, Y/n." She smiles.
"It's not that simple. How many openly gay teenagers do you meet in a day, or a week?" Heather lets out an exaggerated sigh and shakes your shoulders.
"Your being dramatic, Y/n. No one has a right to your personal life other than yourself." She points at you while you both walk out of the cramped storage room and into the early evening breeze.
"I just have way to much baggage. Childhood trauma, terrible home life, I'm a year older than all of my friends and sister, I'm gay. I mean how much more of a teen horror can I get?" You groan. Heather shrugs while you slide into the pool.
"You make it sound worse than it is. Most people like older men. You're 15, not much of an age difference." She leans down next to where your head is after you resurface from the pool.
"Most women like older men." You correct her with a deadpan look. You bob yourself over to the edge of the pool and unhook the pool buoys dividing the deep end from the shallow end. You hand Heather the hook and swim along the edge of the pool, pushing the buoy along while Heather drags it by the hook from along the pool deck.
"I don't know what to tell you Y/n. I can't exactly speak for the homosexuals." She giggles. You unhook the last end of the buoy and lift yourself out of the pool. You pick up the last end and hook it to the wheel.
"Well neither can I! This is my first boy crush and I can't validate myself for shit!" You continue to complain while cranking the handle on the wheel to wind up the buoy. Heather helps it from tangling until it's done winding up.
"You'll figure it out Y/n/n." She gives you sympathetic smile and a pat on the back, handing you a towel. You nod at her and place it around your shoulders, rubbing at your hair with the ends of it.
"Yeah, yeah, sure." You both walk back over to the lifeguard tower so you can grab your shirt and red life guard pouch. "I'm gonna go pack up and change so I don't piss off Lucas again."
"The movies again?" She raises her brows at you.
"Yeah, it's become a nightly thing, but I'm not spending any money so it's fine by me." You chuckle. You turn on the heels of your feet, giving Heather a two finger salute, her giving a small wave back.
