Fucked Up Serendipity

Start from the beginning

Luka nodded, wiping the mess off his face again as he came back to reality "Okay," he whispered. He looked at his sister, "I'm sorry you have to deal with this, Juleka. I usually use my guitar for stuff like this but I just needed to cry." Luka sniffled as hos voice broke, but Juleka noticed the tears weren't falling anymore.

She hugged her brother tight, rubbing his back "It's not a problem, you're always there for everyone else. You deserve some fucking reciprocity every one in a while. Now," she pulled back and looked at him with a serious expression "You look like you need ice cream."

Luka's face broke out into a relived smile "desperately so"

"Let's go." Juleka grabbed his keys off his desk and they set out into the city of Paris,

On the same night, about a hundred miles away, some fucked up serendipitous life working things out was about to go down. (Y/N) was unknowingly about to receive news that would throw their life onto a completely new path and result in the intertwining of two fates that, otherwise, never would have crossed.

(Y/N) was sitting in their living room, constantly shifting their gaze from their phone to the window. Their parents were supposed to be home an hour ago, they'd gone out with some friends. They tried shrugged it off, their parents were almost never on time for anything. Normally (Y/N) would shrug it off no problem, but they were bringing back dinner with them.

They'd gotten comfortable, the TV playing a show, blanket draped over their legs, stuffed animal in their lap, eagerly awaiting dinner and their parents arrival. Half the fun of them going out was hearing the shit talking they would do once they came home, updating their kid on the ongoing drama of their friends' lives. Last (Y/N) had heard, their friend Anna's husband got caught having an affair with another woman and Anna was going to tell him she knew. It was cruel to leave a nosy seventeen year old out of the loop with something like that! The suspense was infuriating!

A few unanswered phone calls and texts to their parents later, they opted to go shower. Might as well get ready for bed and kill some time until they get home. They plugged their phone into the charger in their room and grabbed a change of clothes.

They tried not to let their mind spiral, what if something happened? The roads were slippery, it'd rained just an hour ago. No. It was a Friday night, there were probably drunk drivers- no, (Y/N) tried to let the shampoo rinse away the invasive thoughts. Normally they call if they'll be late. (Y/N) groaned, finishing their shower quickly so they could call their parents just to shut these thoughts up.

They came back to what felt like hundreds of notifications on their phone:

(5) missed calls from Gramps

(13) missed calls from Glamma

(69) missed calls from Owen, followed by a "Call me ASAP" text.

"There's no way they actually died" (Y/N) laughed nervously as they picked up their phone. They clicked Owen's name and waited, feeling a ball of nerves in their stomach as the phone rang.

"Hey kiddo." Owen's voice answered. It sounded like he was driving, his voice was hoarse like he'd been crying.

"You're only five years older than me, Owen." (Y/N) said, unamused. Time for normal banter had to wait, "Why did you, grandma, and grandpa call me so many times? What happened?"

(Y/N) could hear Owen's sigh no way they actually- "Well, there's no...there's really no easy way to say this, kiddo..." they heard him take a deep breath "Your mom and dad, uh...they got into a really bad car accident tonight..."
