They were friends. Not so close friends, but they were still ready to help each other if necessary. Have met there, had a rest there.
And all this is in the past tense... Because one day changed everything. What was whole, shattered into pieces, wha...
The sheet row ended. DetaScop changed his position a bit and, scrolling the pages to the end–
— Deep sigh. "(The last note)," he whispered to himself.

He woke up, fully recovered after being above the fountain.
— "UNDO!.." Cough. "What's the... Day and time?"
— "Wednesday, the 19th of April. 13:24, by UTC 0."
— "What... Exactly happened?.."
His pain was gone, but his weakness remained, as well as a few strange feelings.
— "..UNDO, was that a rewrite?"
— "Yes, it was. What's the last thing you remember?"
He closed the eyes. For some reason, it always helps to remember better.
— "Um-m... Kai... Pocsated... the bar... then an algorithm of further actions for you... and Taka...."
He quiets down.
— "..I-I remember that I wanted to go inside the bar again, because he said nothing that can be counted as an apologize..."
...
— "...And... That's it."
He sighs.
— "..Did he actually kill me?.."
— "Yes, he did. After destroying your soul, he shot it with void."
— "Oh... my... That's why I felt so much pain, isn't it?"
— "You actually died, DetaScop. And if it wasn't for the rewrite, you wouldn't be here anymore."
— "Clear. And that means I don't have my soul now?"
— "Wouldn't. Have."
— Sigh. "I got you."
He exhales deeply; then surprisingly looks at the familiar wreckage.
— "Should I bring your soul?"
— "Wait, UNDO. I wrote about fixing the Residence, didn't I?"
...
The voice didn't answer from above.
— "..UNDO. What. Happened?"
He got free of the strings.
— "In the process of rewriting, I discovered that some items from the algorithm couldn't be returned in time."
Deta jumped down.
— "...What??"
— "After there was an explosion of highly charged anti-matter, an explosive blast wave began. An unusual one. It destroyed not only physical dimensions."
He looked up.
— "Don't say that. Please–"
— "I'm sorry, DetaScop..."
— "N o . . . ."
— "It resetted the time and caused a depressurization. Now the Residence is under the time effect. But, what's more important... It became impossible to rewind the time before the explosion. It destroyed three dimensions and erased the points of time return of the fourth one."
He leans against the fountain and starts to slide down.
— "..That means... You can't go in the past before the explosion. You can't recover the Residence.. You can't save... Kailin."
DetaScop didn't answer.
— "..She was resurrected from your memories after the second death. In fact, she was a ghost, living in the 5D world, where the coefficient of "transparency" is also added – the ability to pass through objects. You didn't want to put up with it right away, so you put her back in 4D. Because of this, a side effect appeared – she couldn't stay more than 81 minutes in Universes where there's a fourth dimension – time. But even after that, she continued to live like a ghost, without a soul inside her, created only from emotions and your memories of her, even though she was tangible to the outside world. You've never killed anyone, you haven't taken the souls of others that have already been killed, it seemed to you that after that she'd cease to respect herself for living instead of another, and you as a murderer, even if you weren't. That's why she was always here, where it wasn't boring, and where she didn't crumble into binary digits because of time. You created this world for her. Because you love her. So much so that you didn't even give her a soul, although many years have passed since you found out about it, and I'm sure you would've been able to get at least one for her... But you didn't. You thought that this could lead to what I said earlier, but then you had control over the time in the Residence. I offered you this. Twice. And each time I have received the same answer, reasoned by the fact that your principles don't allow you to experiment on her personality. I convinced you, and you yourself knew that the second, last link in the sequence 'a person with a soul — a person without a soul' would be the last stage for her, since she's not a person, but the same program as everything that is here, and the next link — 'ghost' simply doesn't exist for her case... But you didn't listen. And even after you gave her life back, recreating her with emotions, memories and code, I told you AGAIN to give her a soul. But you rejected it AGAIN, this time adding that the Residence is completely protected, and even if someone comes here and has such an indifferent character that even your radiant sister won't stop him, they'll not have any superpowers thanks to the code you've built into this space, not to mention me as the second guardian of it. What were you thinking when you saw the abilities of the inhabitants of The Bar Universe? What were you thinking when you started the battle with Taka? What were you thinking when, instead of preparing for her birthday, you turned it into a funeral day with your own hands?"
Deta just continued to sit on the floor, leaning back against the fountain, crying silently for several minutes.
— "..I'm very sorry, Protector. I was supposed to keep an eye on her and the elevator, but... 'let's be honest', as you like to say, it's no less your fault."
— ". . . . ."
— "..I'm so sorry... It's over, Deta. For real."
He stretched out his hand and opened the palm. A two-weeks-old photograph of Her appeared in front of the crying guy, above the palm of the hand.
