Chapter 23: Apollo's Attack

Start from the beginning

I silently motioned for Hestia to stay still. She seemed confused but followed nonetheless.

I slowly and surely made my way to the front of the church and just as my hair touched the light of the morning sun and I stepped out of the shadows I could feel my stomach drop as a sense of impending danger took over me. Standing on the building a lone elf held his hand upward. As soon as I took a step into the sunlight he threw his hand forward as if ordering for a volley.

I threw myself backward, grabbed Hestia and threw the both of us back.

Not a moment later a loud boom and shockwave shook the church along with us. I looked back up at the building and saw dozens of men, and women stepping out from behind the buildings, all adventurers and all wearing the uniform with the sun emblem displaying their allegiances to Apollo.

And as I stared up at them my heart sank.

...

So that's how I got into this situation. Running around like crazy trying to avoid the several adventures all while carrying Hestia in order to protect her.

I was currently running through a dim alleyway, and gray clouds soon covered the sky while we were running around.

My hand was wrapped around goddess Hestia's as I ran pulling her along.

"I'm sorry for slowing you down, bell," she spoke between breaths.

"It's not your fault, goddess," I responded in kind. Three men chased behind us as we ran. I turned back forward but slowed slightly as I saw a lone man standing in my path. Brown hair tied in a ponytail, sharp features across his face, and blue eyes.

I grimaced slightly. I quickly let go of Hestia's hand and swung her out of the way before turning to face the three pursers from before. I dashed forward as the first one swung downward but I quickly pushed past him and managed to hit the back of his head before he could react causing him to fall. The second one similarly swung vertically with his sword. Having little space to dodge this one I blocked it with my knife and threw him back before following up by slamming his chin causing him to fall as well.

The last one used a short sword and a knife to swing in an X-shaped slash. I managed to lightly jolt back just out of range before dashing forward and kneeing him in his solar plexus at the opening he showed.

I had managed to down the three of them but I had no time to relax. I quickly swivel back to the man who had stood in front of me.

"Mr. Hyakinthos," I muttered his name and he smirked in turn.

Hyakinthos, a level 3 adventurer who had beaten me back at the bar fight.

Before I could even react he appeared in front of me and swung his sword in an upward motion.

I quickly brought both of my daggers in front of my body and

managed to block the blow but it still sent me flying back several feet.

"Guh," I grunted at the weight of it.

"Bell," I could hear goddess Hestia call out in concern.

"I'm impressed you made it this far, Bell Cranel," he said, brandishing his sword. "Rejoice, I'll be fighting you personally,"

I sucked in a sharp breath at his words. I was currently level 2, common sense dictated I didn't stand a chance.

But I couldn't just give up. Nor could I run away with Hestia still here. I gritted my teeth and prepared to fight.

Once again he dashed forward and began to swing his sword violently.

With frightening speed and strength that shook my body, each blow felt as if my body was being struck directly.
