She was just a friend. That is what Giyuu tried to remind himself. But as the time with Shinobu at the festival passed, he found it harder and harder to keep that in his head. She made him feel something that he hadn't felt in a while. He felt loved. But, his sister loved him, and he didn't romantically like her, cause she was his sister. Tsutako made him feel loved. And Sabito, he was Giyuus best friend, and he made him feel loved. No romantic attraction there. That's what Giyuu tried to engrave in his head. But it was something different with Shinobu. It felt as if every time she smiled, a firework went off in his heart. She laughed, a firework. She talked, a firework. Everything Shinobu did and everything about her sent fireworks though Tomioka heart. He felt as if his heart itself would explode like a firework. Her touch felt magnetizing, and her subtle glances and teasings were more than enough to send butterflies into Giyuus stomach. But, none of that means anything if the other person doesn't like you back, he reminded himself. He still hasn't come to terms with the fact that he likes Shinobu. No, not likes. He loves her. He loves everything about her. To her small figure, her personality, her intelligence. Yes, he knew her personality wasn't hers, but he didn't mind. He liked HER personality too. Her original one. He was head over heels. Yet...he didn't know how to believe it. He didn't know how to register it. His thoughts were racing. "Tomioka-San!" Every time she said his name, his heart stopped. "Tomioka-San!!!" He didn't like to admit it, but he felt excited deep deep down when he heard that voice calling out his name. "Tomioka-San! Poke poke!" He could have sworn Shinobu was poking him right now, but he found it quite cute when she did that. "TOMIOKA-SAN!" Giyuu was snapped out of his thoughts. "Are you out of the clouds? I hope so! Ive been calling your name for a while now!" Shinobu said. "My apologies, I was deep in thought." Giyuu said. The pair was sitting down by a lake, Tanjiro, Aoi, Kanao, and the others not too far away. "You are forgiven! But look Tomioka! The fireworks are about to start!" Shinobu said cheerfully. Tomioka turned his head to look at the lake as the fireworks illuminated the sky. They were beautiful, like the stars in the sky. They were beautiful, like the butterflies he would see. They were beautiful, like the flowers that swayed in the wind. They were beautiful, like Shinobu. He felt himself tear up a bit, and he smiled. Shinobu looked over at Giyuu for a split second, and was surprised. Giyuus face was serene, peaceful, yet sad. His small smile and teary eyes complimented his features. She couldn't help but get lost in Giyuus ocean blue eyes. Yes, those were the eyes she wished to see every day. Those were the eyes that matched the lake that the fireworks were illuminating. Like the lake, Giyuus eyes reflected the fireworks. Oh, how they looked so beautiful. She wished he was hers. She wished she could be the one that lit up his eyes. But she knew she would never. Giyuu Tomioka was a closed off man, and she figured the most she could mean to him was a friend. And nothing more. Her heart ached, knowing he would never look at her the same. Yet she couldn't help herself. Blue was the color of sorrow, yet she somehow found herself happy when she saw blue. Because blue was Giyuu. Blue was the man she wished she could see every waking hour. Blue was the color of the person she wanted to wake up next to every single day. She began to tear up herself, as she shoved these thoughts back away, hidden forever. She must get rid of this feeling. It's not professional, she thought. She turned back to look at the fireworks, a tear streaming down her face. Giyuu glanced over for a second, and his heart melted. Shinobu looked sad, yet so happy. The tear slid down her face and onto the grass below. They were both fools. Fools in love, and fools in fear. They were fools in their sorrow. They were fools in their loss. Giyuu looked back at the fireworks, staring to cry slightly as well. You could never be mine, they both thought. You could never. The final firework exploded in the air, and their final spark of hope diminished in a big, beautiful, boom.
