Liz didn't respond but only nodded. I was relieved the minute I felt the pressure that was previously pulling me backward plummet. I sighed. Glancing back over my shoulders, the warmth of her breath caressed my entire face. A feeling so magical.
The soft squeeze of her gorgeous twin hills against my back was now stronger and more mind-corrupting. Heck! Even my blood was heating up and every portion of my body longed for more of her. To complicate the already messy situation even further, her soft lips were mere inches away, just behind my right earlobe. A sudden uninvited feeling struck me like a thunderbolt, hijacking all my senses. A feeling of wanting a taste of her lips. I started tilting my head slowly so that my lips would finally collide with hers. By now, all her body movements had completely ceased and she wasn't attempting to pull her charged face away. It was as if she was experiencing the same feeling as me.
But when our lips were about to embrace each other and also against my wishful luck, Liz stirred and then took a step backward. She truly appeared shocked as if she was completely unaware of what was going on. She ogled to the floor and I could tell she was confused and in great dilemma.
"Oh, my Dave..... What are we doing? How did......" she stuttered "Anyway, never mind...i – i – ahhh...." She slapped her forehead nervously "Oh, that someone who was outside there!"
Right then, her adrenaline kicked up. Calmness eroded out of her face instantly. I didn't move or say a word. It was as if an unknown demon initialized override.
I just stood there in both confusion and disappointment, staring at her for I needed some time to recollect my mind and body. I was also so afraid that she would hate me for acting out of order.
Slowly and silently, she tiptoed towards the empty chair and then sat on it. She tilted her head downwards so that her face was facing the floor. Maybe she was troubled by what was about to unfold moments ago. I decided to accord her some space and time to recollect herself too.
I refocused towards the Range Rover's occupant who now seemed to have some difficulty stepping out of the vehicle.
Gathering all the little energy he had at the moment, he managed to stand for a short moment before staggering and swaying like a drunkard. He quickly bent one of his knees thereby countering the imbalance towards the range, enabling him to lean on it. After two minutes of stillness, he dared to stand again on his feet.
Despite spreading his legs wide apart in order to maintain stability, he lost his balance and staggered towards the fuel pump which was a couple of meters ahead of him.
Perhaps he is only injured and not someone to be scared of. He was in need of some urgent help for he was losing too much blood. I had to do something. I glanced back to Liz who was still seated.
"No..that one can't be a dangerous person at all Liz. I think he needs some assistance," I mumbled to her, ready to move out of the office.
On hearing this, Liz snapped out of her slumber instantly.
"Hell no! What if he is infected? For God's sake David, no one even knows how long it takes for someone to show symptoms of which we don't even know which ones...he might even be a carrier" erupted Liz.
"Please Liz, he doesn't seem like one and he is bleeding to death while we do nothing," I said without looking at her. I was still eyeing the man who was now closer to the pump but before he could have a hold of it, he suddenly lost balance and fell to the ground on his left side. He groaned in pain.
Seeing this, the dark scary feelings in me evaporated at once, and instead, the overwhelming urge to help kicked in. I flung the door wide open and started running towards the stranger.
Behind me, Liz stood at the door. Shouting at me furiously "Dave, are you insane? What do you think you are doing?"
I didn't stop or even attempt to look back at her. I knew I had to do something to help the stranger despite some part of me warning me to keep off.
The minute I arrived where the stranger was, chilling Goosebumps erupted throughout my entire body. I stood about four feet away from him. He was now struggling to sit up on the pavement where he could be able to lean his back on the closest fuel pump. His blood-soaked face remained lowered to the ground. I wasn't sure how or why but there was something weird about him and I could certainly feel it.
I decided to get closer to him so that I would be able to perform a better analysis of his current condition.
But before I could even raise my right foot, the stranger coughed. A wheezing dry cough. Then another one and another one followed. Though feebly, he raised his face halfway, as if staring directly at my groin. It was hard for me to plot most of his facial features due to the amount of blood that was clinging onto his face. Tiny reddish beads dripped from his face down to his torso, sipping through his clothes. His entire torso was screaming with blood.
"Please, d-don't c-come any closer. But you can help me with something to clean my face. I c-can't see clearly" the stranger finally stuttered.
I got confused.
"And why shouldn't I? You're injured and in need of help, how w...." I attempted to ask but the man cut me out before I could finish.
"P-please, don't ask a lot of questions. First, help me with something I can use to clean the blood from my face" the man insisted, coughing two more times.
"Let me get him something. You keep an eye on him. We're not taking any chances" Confused and slow to act, I heard Liz whisper to me from the back before I got to make up my mind. I had even completely forgotten that she existed. She rushed to our car as the man sneezed two times,
Within seconds, Liz was back, holding two mini-sized clean towels.
"You too Miss, please d-don't get too close to me. Just throw the towel to me" the stranger warned Liz too, who then ogled at me in confusion. The Stranger looked so exhausted.
I shook my head in return, signaling Liz to comply. She tossed one of the towels to the man. He luckily got a hold of it and started to wipe his face. Not that he was that good at it anyway.
We both stood there wordless, while the stranger cleaned his face, neck, and his chest's midsection. All the while, thousands of answer-less questions streamlined in my mind. Was the man truly infected? Why did he not want us so close to him? Did those who had been infected have the knowledge that they were infected? Or what had happened to this man?
At last, his face was now clear of blood. But the look on his face scared the hell out of me, and I didn't like it. Fear erupted in me like an angry volcano. I looked at Liz and she was as startled as I was. Her face was full of fear as she eyed the man curiously. It was as if she was face to face with a real human-like creature.
