"I'm starting to think you like being in the clinic bed," Captain Ackerman muttered. Your eyes snapped open as you sat up. You remembered your ankle and pretended to wince in pain. "Calm down. It's me."

"That's exactly why I'm not calm, thanks," you shot back, then crossed your arms. You hoped and prayed to every god, every angel, every devil, every deity, and every celestial being that he would just leave or, at the very least, not look at any of your injuries.

He looked you up and down, his narrowed eyes studying you for the slightest bit of suspicious activity. Anything he could use to his advantage, he would. Anything he could accuse you of, he would. But what evidence did he have? Moreso, why did he suspect you of anything? He held his breath. Baited. Excited to catch you like a cat and a mouse. Yet, his words held weight as he said, "Mikasa says you only have ten years to live."

That's some evidence, I suppose. You glared at him, then took a breath. "Yes; I have a chronic illness. The doctor said I'll most likely live for ten more years. Then, my life expectancy falters." I need to find an heir. I can't let this gift—or this curse—die with me.

"What illness?"

"It's personal," you replied.

"Personal? I need to know."

"Why?" You shot back. Your conversation was like bullets flying past the two of you.

He tilted his head. "Because you're under my command. If anything happens—"

"I said it's personal."

He ran a hand through his hair. "Look, brat, I don't exactly have a lot of time."

"Neither do I."

He stiffened. "Okay. You know what? Fine. I have a court case to get to. I'll check your ankle and tell Hange," he muttered, half to himself. You pulled your leg away when he lifted the blanket. When he shot you a glare, he grabbed your leg and examined it. "What the hell..."

"I can explain!"

"Yes, please explain how an ankle that was so awfully fucked up is now healthy."

You swallowed; of course you couldn't explain. You were a titan shifter. You sighed as you looked into his eyes and whispered, "It's my blood."

"Your blood?" He deadpanned. "Look, I don't have a lot of time. Stay here and rest until we're done. There should be a doctor coming soon—an actual doctor, not just a mad scientist."

"That's a shame. I like the mad scientist."

"Not funny," he muttered under his breath as he took one last look at you, then left. You sighed and closed your eyes as you thought of a way to explain the regenerative properties your titan powers gave you.

When the door opened again, it wasn't Captain Ackerman. It wasn't Hange or Erwin or anyone else. It was Armin. You guessed it was the following day—the regeneration was really taking a lot out of you. "Armin?"

"Y/n!" He exclaimed, surprised. "Are you alright?"

You nodded. "Fine. Why are you here?"

"I was looking for Commander Erwin." He sighed and sat next to you. His fingers curled over the hem of his untucked shirt. "Something bad happened." Anyone could see that much. The boy was permanently anxious but he had gone to a whole new level with this. His leg was bouncing up and down sporadically and his eyes were flickering around the room. He had more behind those eyes of his than the fluff in the other cadets' brains. "Moblit said that Sawney and Beane were killed."
