A Hogwarts Mystery: Talbott Winger x Reader

Whispers and secrets

One morning, as Talbott sat down for breakfast, he heard his name being said a couple of times in a conversation that caught his attention. He looked up discreetly to see y/n, the main character of the story and the hero. Though he hadn't meant to eavesdrop, the mention of his name—the narrator—is something he hadn't expected. Slightly.

Y/n's voice carried a genuine curiosity as she went from one place to another. He wondered what she might be asking, and it left him with a mix of curiosity and apprehension. Does she somehow discover his secret observation to her and her friends? Or did she plan to finally pursue the friendship she's been giving left and right, because if she did, a big 'no' would be her answer. After all, he was known for his nature of being introverted and his preference for being alone. Even if she were the main character of the story he is narrating in his mind, the thought of being her friend is something he can't accept.

Finished eating, he planned to leave the hall, but Talbott couldn't help but wonder what had sparked y/n's curiosity about him. It intrigues him to know, and he wanted to know if there's a reason or not.

'It's also rude to gossip...' Talbott said to himself as he made his way towards her.

Talbott's sudden appearance behind y/n was unexpected, causing her to jump in surprise, almost falling off her bum. She had to blink in shock as she mentally berated herself for not being able to sense him. She had been honing her skills last summer and is still practising herself these past few days. His being able to sneak at her in the back undetected is a flaw she had to rectify. But then again, he was a quiet and aloof person; he would be a perfect master of stealth and hiding.

She looked up to face Talbott with a sheepish grin, her cheeks slightly flushed from his sudden appearance. She cleared her throat and replied, "Oh, Hello Talbott, I didn't realise you were listening... or here... I...I was just curious, that's all."

Talbott's piercing eyes bore into hers, and he spoke in a calm and collected tone. "Curiosity can be a powerful motivator, but if you truly want to know someone, it's best to ask them directly." He knows he would regret saying that, but he couldn't help but think that he feels satisfied with the embarrassed look she's sporting.

Y/n nodded in acceptance as she rubbed the back of her neck to show her true embarrassment at getting caught by the person she was talking about with the other students. She had always been the adventurous type, but now she found herself at a loss for words in front of the quiet Ravenclaw. "You're right, Talbott. I'll keep that in mind." Both of them fell quiet as she awkwardly shuffled her feet while Talbott regarded her.

"Is it true you sneaked into Filch's office?" he asked suddenly with a soft voice, as if trying to be as casual and secretive as possible.

Talbott's question about sneaking into Filch's office had caught y/n off guard. She hesitated for a moment, her eyes flickering with a mixture of surprise and curiosity. "Maybe? What if I did?" she replied, her voice now tinged with a hint of playfulness as the embarrassment began to fade.

Talbott, still calm, didn't seem fazed by her response. He leaned in slightly, his tangerine-colored eyes holding a hint of accusation and curiosity.

But he then shrugged. "Well, it's not as if I don't know what happens in the halls of Hogwarts," he remarked, his tone carrying a touch of sarcasm. "I may always be alone, but I still do have friends."

Y/n couldn't help but be surprised by his words. She had always seen Talbott as an introvert more than Chiara, but now it seemed that they weren't that different. Talbott grins sarcastically at her and says, "You're probably surprised I have any friends at all..."
