As I reached the door, Matt called out to me from behind. Flushed, I reluctantly turned back to face him. "Hey, can I talk to you?" he asked. Trying to brush off the situation, I replied, "Um, there's nothing to talk about."
I walked quickly, with Carina stopping and asking what was going on. I dismissed it, saying, "Nothing, forget it," and took her hand, pulling her along as we walked away.
As I hurried towards my locker, I could feel Matt's presence lingering behind me. Every step I took, he followed closely, as if determined to have a conversation. When I finally reached my locker, Carina, sensing the unease, gave me a supportive smile and silently mouthed "good luck" before walking away to her own locker.
As I stashed my books in my locker, I swung the door shut, only to find Matt conveniently positioned on my right, leaning oh-so-casually against the neighboring locker. Cue the eye roll.
"Stop stalking me," I quipped, trying to mask my annoyance. With an exaggerated wave of his hand, he retorted, "Hey, I'm not stalking you. This just happens to be my locker, sweetheart."
Classic Matt, always with a snappy comeback. He effortlessly punched in his locker code, leaving me feeling a mix of embarrassment and irritation.
I mustered a feeble "Okay" and spun around, determined to put some distance between us. As I walked over to where my best friends were standing, I couldn't help but feel a mix of relief and excitement.
Carina, always perceptive, had that mischievous glint in her eye as she asked, "So, spill the tea! How's it going with that boy? What actually happened?" My mind raced, debating whether to share the whole truth or just brush it off.
Finally, I took a deep breath and began, "Okay, you won't believe this, but it all started with Scarlett and her infamous paper..." And just like that, I delved into the details.
Aftet a while..I noticed my friends' expressions change, their eyes subtly signaling me to stop and turn back. Intrigued, I spun around to find Matt standing there, a mischievous grin playing on his lips.
Feeling a mix of awkwardness and curiosity, I blurted out, "Hey, what are you doing here?"
Matt chuckled and replied, "Sorry for startling you. I wasn't trying to overhear your conversation, I just wanted to talk to you. Do you mind?"
I nodded in agreement and gestured for Matt to walk with me. We headed outside, ready to continue our conversation in a more private setting.
As we stroll outside, we find a quaint bench bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun. Matt's gaze meets mine, and a mischievous smile dances on his lips.
With a playful twinkle in his eyes, he confesses, "You know, I actually thought that note was from you, aimed right at me!"
My eyebrows shoot up in surprise, my mind racing to comprehend this unexpected twist. So that's why he snuck up behind me, trying to figure out why i did it! I can't help but chuckle, releasing the tension that had been building up inside me.
It turns out I had created an entire narrative in my head. "Haha," I burst into laughter, admitting that I had mistakenly believed he wanted to be mean and make fun of the note, completely oblivious to the fact that he was actually on the same side as me.
I was convinced that Matt was intentionally rubbing salt in the wound. But here we are, laughing together at the absurdity of it all. It was like a scene straight out of an early 2000s teen flick, where misunderstandings are resolved, and friendships blossom.
With a playful grin, Matt leans in closer, his voice dripping with charm. "Well, I guess we've both learned an important lesson today," he says, his eyes sparkling mischievously. "Never judge a book by its cover... or a note by its author!" He winks, leaving me blushing and lost for words as he gracefully gets up from the bench. As he walks away, my heart feels light and a warm, a happy feeling spreads through me.
