(Flashback, Second year at Aldera Junior High)

Izuku sat quietly at his assigned desk in the back of the classroom. The class was waiting for the arrival of their new history teacher. The previous history teacher, Mr. Kimura, quit at the end of the last academic year after he won the local lottery.

Now, you'd think that Izuku would take this as an opportunity to catch up with his classmates by discussing what they did during their break or their hopes for the coming academic year. Still, Izuku knew by now that he would be met with silence and a look of disgust.

Izuku initially hoped the bullying would diminish with maturity and stop after elementary school. Unfortunately, life decided to give him a big fat middle finger as the bullying and discrimination he experienced got worse.

For starters, Bakugo's reputation and his ego became even bigger as he transitioned from elementary to junior high. Every teacher took one look at his powerful and flashy quirk and thought that he would be the next number-one hero without a shadow of a doubt. So the school staff made it their life mission to make sure their "star" student did not miss out on the chance to boost the school's reputation by being the number one hero....... I mean, enroll in UA to become a hero to save everyone.

Bakugo was the king of the pyramid, the top of the totem pole, and the supposed crowning achievement of Aldera Junior High. And where was Izuku in this social hierarchy? He was the equivalent of an insignificant dirt spec surrounding the totem pole.

The school's continuous spoon-feeding of Bakugo's ego not only inflated his ego to unimaginable proportions but seemingly made his ego more fragile than glass.

Every time Izuku beat Bakugo at anything or even remotely competed with him in anything. Bakugo thought an insignificant spec, a quirkless Deku, challenged his spotless crown. In other words, Bakugo always thought Izuku was looking down on him for not respecting his rightful place as a "quirkless freak." He has been surrounded by praise for his quirk ever since he first discovered it so he thought it would be impossible for a quirkless Deku to come close to beating him at anything, and I mean anything.

This mindset caused Bakugo's resentment and anger towards Izuku to grow with every passing school year.

How did Bakugo proceed to vent that anger?

Explosions.....lots and lots of explosions

The beatings from Bakugo and his gang of followers soon became more frequent for Izuku than when he was in elementary. Granted, he was still treated like a punching bag, but at least the beatings did not occur that often. The reason behind pretty much all of these beatings was a damaged ego.

But how do you not damage an ego that can be cracked by seemingly touching it with a feather?

Anytime Izuku appeared to be competing with Bakugo, the result was always the same.... a beating.

Every time, Izuku scored higher on a test than Bakugo. Bakugo demanded that the quirkless nerd must have cheated. Of course, pretty much all the teachers believed their "star" student and proceeded to change Izuku's grade to a barely passing one, which they believed was a much more realistic grade for a quirkless student, especially compared to one with such a powerful quirk even if it happened to have nothing to do with one's IQ. The teachers would then allow Bakugo and his fellow students to teach Izuku a "lesson" about "cheating." Which often resulted in a body coated with bruises and burns.

Every time, Izuku looked like he was trying to bulk up and outmuscle Bakugo. He was beaten up to the point that he vomited his lunch.

Every time Bakugo asks him if he still wants to be a hero, and Izuku answered yes. He was beaten to help Izuku wake up to reality, supposedly.
