Todd x Neil one shots!!

(This is an au where no one dies and Todd and Neil live happily. They have two kids, Cozzmo and Fleury. Neil is a nurse and Todd is a high school math and science teacher. Added head canon that Todd is half Japanese and taught his son Japanese/his son learned Japanese as Todd speaks it which is why its spoken in here, onto the one shot :3)

Todd's tapping his nails against the counter, anxiously checking the clock.

"Fuck sakes..."

He can feel the tiredness of his eyes and his body overall. He starts to chew at the nails on his other hand.

The only sound in the room is the clock ticking and Todd's rapid tapping.

The kids are fast asleep, considering it's almost 2 in the morning, he's hoping the eldest is asleep.

Todd checks the clock again and not a minute has passed, he pushes off the counter.

"Where is he... Its way past the time he needs to be here... God dammit."

Neil paces the floor, his feet aching and his ears ringing. His pacer beeps again and he stops in the hall. His head pounding, the lights are bright.

"I just... I can't."

He shakes his head and takes a deep breath, looking to his clipboard and then his watch.

He's late. He knows, he sighs and looks back to his checklist, circling his tasks he can do quickly.

Meanwhile, Todd paces the hallway, trying to occupy himself. He stops by his daughters room and opens it slowly.

Smiling as he sees his daughter relaxed, sleeping form.

"Sweet dreams, sweetheart."

He swears he seems a little smile, but he just shuts the door slowly and walks down the hall to Cozzmo's room.

Placing his ear to the door for a moment before knocking gently.

"H.. Huh?"

He opens the door slowly and peeks in.

"Nothing Cozz.. Just checking in. Get back to sleep, sleep well darling."

"Aishiteruyo, otōsan..."

Todd smiles and closes the door. Walking back to the kitchen.

He grunts as he drops himself in a chair, dropping his head down. His exhausted brain twists everything.

"He is at someone's house.."

"No he's at work..."

Todd mumbles against his thoughts.

"He is having fun, not even thinking of you or the kids. He's going to up and leave!"

"No, no, no..."

He bangs his head against the table lightly.

Neil walks by the front desk and drops his clipboard.

"Goodnight Janice."

"What-?"
"I'm heading home."

Sure, the extra hours would be good but...

"I have a family to get to."

"You have more to do."

"Give it to whoever is coming in next."

With that, Neil heads to the office to clock out and walk out the door.

Neil gets home as fast as he can, staying legal.

Todd has his head in his hands and his legs are bouncing.

"Please Neil... come home..."

The car pulls into the driveway and Todd jumps up. Tears clinging to his eyes.

"Please please..."

The doorknob jiggles and his hands are trembling. He glares at the door and clenches his jaw.

Neil's doing his best to be quite as he opens the door and walks in, making sure not to wake anyone up. Turning around after closing the door he sees Todd glare.

"Honey?"

"You're late..."

Todd's words are soft and sad.

"I know... Something with work came up."

"For two hours?"

Neil winces at the tone Todd uses and he sighs softly.

"Todd... Listen. It's past your bedtime, let's head to bed..."

"You can't use work as an excuse."

"What?"

"You can't leave us!"

Neil squints and Todd as he whispers yells.

"Baby, what are you talking about?"

Neil opens his arms in a wide shrug, eyebrows scrunching down in confusion.

Todd takes a step forward and lets out a sob before he runs into Neil's arms.

"You can't leave us- The kids need you- I need you-!"

"Todd, baby... Let's get to bed, I'm not leaving anyone, I love you all."

Todd pulls away and looks in Neil's eyes.

"You just... took a while..."

"They gave me a shit ton to do... I said no and came home once I realized I was late... I came home for you baby."

Todd just sniffles and wipes at his face roughly.

"You're not leaving us..."

"Never... Come on..."

Neil drops his bag on the counter and grabs Todd's hand gently, pulling his husband to their bedroom.

Once they're dressed for bed and Todd's settled down a little, Neil pulls him to bed and holds him to his chest.

"We need you... you can't leave- n-never ever..."

"I can't do this without you..."

"I love you so much..."

Neil strokes his hair gently and shushes him.

"I'm not leaving, I'm always going to be here with you, all of you, I love you more than life itself."

Todd whines softly and tears gather in his eyes again.

"I thought you left us a-and found something easier... Someone better... I'm sorry."

"No, no, Todd, lovely, don't apologize, okay? I'm sorry I took a little longer, but I would and could never find someone better than you. You're the reason I'm still here and you all are the reason I can wake up and be happy everyday."

Todd sighs and holds Neil tight. Clinging to him as if he's going to disappear.

"Let's sleep, okay?"

"Mhm..."

"Sleepy, silly boy..."

"Love you..."

"I love you more...!"
