DAY 623 AFTER SOLAR FLARES
17:00 HOURS
Buck
I was with Joey, playing in the sand and dirt while my father sat on the hood of his car with Jorge. My mother was asleep in the back of the impala so I was too afraid to go inside and sleep myself even though the night was starting to tire me. My father told me that tonight me and Joey were going to sleep in Bertha because it was bigger anyway. I knew the real reason was because he didn't want me around mom at the moment. She changed since the Solar Flares. Before she used to just pretend me and Joey didn't exist, but now she hated when we would even breathe in her direction.
I preferred her ignoring us.
"I can't ditch her in the Scorch." My father signed to Jorge, not knowing I was watching.
"You deserve better Matt." Jorge signed back.
"She's the mother to my children, I can't leave her." He said back in response.
"She can't threaten to take the kids anymore, the justice system is gone." Jorge argued back to him but my father shook his head. "Your free."
"I know, but what kind of man would I be if I left her to die?"
"Your too good of a man, that's the kind." Jorge then told him which made my father laugh.
"You can blame God for making me this way my friend." Dad told him as he wrapped an arm around his best friend's shoulder, making Jorge smile while shrugging his shoulders before looking up to the stars.
They spent every night looking up to the stars, not moving, not talking, just staring. Sometimes I wondered what they found so interesting about looking up at the stars. I didn't ask that night, but I would always wonder.

DAY 186 BACK IN THE SCORCH
00:00 HOURS
Buck
I didn't need much to get me through what I was going to pull, I just grabbed a bag and filled it with food, water, and weapons. I slipped my jacket over my shoulders and threw my bag into the back of my car, the keys sitting in my hand. No one had to know what I was planning, no one had to know where I was going, but I wasn't going to leave Desmond and Minho to rot away in WICKED.
My father's car...
Matthew.
Matthew's car was the first thing I made sure was carried onto the tanker ship that was going to be brought to the Safe Haven. Desmond deserved to have it, it was his father's car after all, and a pivotal thing in our childhood that he didn't remember. So instead of driving that car to Denver, I decided to just steal one of the newly fixed up jeeps that lay wasting away in the garage. Jorge would understand.
No one would really miss me if I were gone, and I was positive that Vince was probably praying that I would do this. It gave him a reason to leave me behind, but I knew that Thomas would force him to wait for me. His persistence and nagging always won in situations, so he'll make sure the boat will wait for our return. I had to have faith in him to do that for me.
"Did you bring music?" I heard a voice suddenly whisper, and I whipped my head back immediately in shock, thinking that I had been quiet enough to not get caught. "I don't think I'll last another road trip with your grumpiness without it."
