CHAPTER ONE : THE BEGINNING
***
This sucks, Jennie thought as she looks around the school cafeteria. She wished she just went with her friends to the mall. But she still has another class to attend. She was seated on a corner table, the farthest one from the counter. It was already past two in the afternoon; her next class was at four o’clock.
She was in her third year on her Marketing and Law course, and she should be graduating this year, but she just transferred to this university a lot of subjects were not fitting into the curriculum and she ended up being behind a year. She does not care because her friends Jisoo and Irene were still both in their third year. Jennie and her mother had to go back from Melbourne to South Korea when her parents got divorced. She chose to live with her mother, and her dad was left there with his work. She was too old to be affected by the cliché my parents are divorced, poor daughter Jennie crap. She wants her parents both to be happy, so she was really cool with it.
She doesn’t mind being back to Korea either; they went to Victoria five years ago because of her father’s work opportunity and truth be told she always wanted to go back here with her friends.
After a while, she looks at her wristwatch and saw that it was just only three o’clock. When she glances at the doorways, there she saw Mino, the guy she dated once when she just got back. It was an okay date, but after that night she stops responding to his text.
He was a nice guy, but she can’t shake the feeling that indeed, she cannot go back into liking guys anymore. Yes, she had been with girls when she was abroad, and she found out she preferred dating females now. Her mother was very cool about it, and her dad, who was always busy can’t really be bothered with whom she was dating.
Mino smiled and walked towards her. Damn. She does not want to do this again. He was asking for another date, and she already said no to him—thrice. It has become repetitive and it annoys her now.
“Hi Jennie, how are you?” he asked and uninvited, sat at the table opposite her.
“I’m okay,” she simply replied. She took her bag. She was about to get up when he held her arm to stop her. “What are you doing, Mino?” She looked at his offending hand, irritation laced on her tone.
“Let’s have a meal together.”
“No, I already ate.”
“How about some coffee?”
“Mino, I told you...”
“Come on, Jennie, I like you. We had fun, let’s have another date.” He pleaded loudly, and it miffed her because other students in the cafeteria were now looking in their direction. She then proceeded to walk out of there. He continued to follow her.
“Jennie, come on just another date.”
“Can you stop it, Mino? Please!”
She decided to just go to the ladies’ bathroom so he can’t follow. She stayed there for at least fifteen minutes before she even had to check first if he was still out there waiting for her. When she saw that he was nowhere in sight, she walks out of there as fast as she could, trying to make sure he would not follow her. Her steps were hurried, she hated the fact that she was now trying to avoid him like she was a fugitive. She keeps looking back as she walks and halted when her face almost smashed into something that smells a lot like ivory soap. She almost lost her balance, if it was not for a quick arm that grab and steady her.
