Although the day had been filled with appointments with ministers, meetings with the wedding planning committee – where they finally approved the wedding invitations that got send out later that day and Aneela and Nikolai were able to tick the first thing off their endless to do list –, some exercise with Sterling in the early morning and a dance lesson in the late afternoon, Aneela couldn't sleep at night.
The exhaustion of getting up by dawn and being on her feet nearly all day should have made her fall asleep as soon as she had laid down on the mattress. But no, not even sleep was allowed to recharge my energy. She rolled from her left side to her right, to the left again and then rested on her back, staring at the ceiling. Maybe I'm past the point of being tired and have hit my dead spot.
It had been dark for several hours now, autumn was slowly approaching, and it was only a matter of a few weeks until the days got shorter, and summer was officially over. The room was filled with the moonlight that shinned through the windows. Everything was as tidy as usual but Aneela didn't even have the time to make her chambers messy anymore; she only slept in here and got changed, she didn't even had her meals in here anymore because they were either hosted in Yaniya's room, Zoya's salon or the drawing room which had been officially declared as Aneela's and Kheru's salon that was now only being used with their permission.
The zemini's eyes stopped at her nightstand. Two books were stacked on top of each other, both read and waited to be brought back to the library and get exchanged with another set of literature. She couldn't even remember when she finished them, it must have been before the proposal because since then, she hadn't read a page. Well, I guess now I have the time and since I'm awake ...
With a sigh, she sat up and grabbed the books, sliding out of bed. She put some slippers on, threw a night gown over and headed to the library. When Nikolai had relocated her chambers after the fjerdans had trashed her previous ones, he had made sure that they were not only closer to his own but also to the library, so she didn't need to walk so far. The Grand Palace was silent and only a couple of guards stood in the corridors who greeted her with a nod, knowing where she was heading.
Aneela pushed the door handle to the library down and slowly opened it to prevent the old door from creaking, it made a terribly loud noise when it got opened too fast. She stepped inside and stopped at the spot. The moonlight framed a tall male stood at one of the bookshelves and turned around when he noticed somebody entering the room.
She gave him a pitiful smile. "Can't sleep, either?"
"Is it be possible that I'm too tired to sleep?"
"I feel the same way." Aneela sighed as she closed the door behind her, shielding out the Grande Palace so there were only him and her that existed at midnight. For only a mere second. "Have you found any interesting literature to keep your company through this sleepless night?"
