Erza cleared her throat and stepped forward. "Let's get started. I'm Erza, and this is Mirajane." She said, gesturing to herself and Mira. "This is Lucy, Juvia, Levy, Kagura and Yukino. We're part of the student body and have been assigned to help guide and make sure you adjust well to our school."
"Is that right?" The voice from the corner drew everyone's attention. Gajeel Redfox, he leaned against the wall. He had long black hair and metal piercings covered his face. His gaze swept over them, lingering on Levy for a moment. Gajeel had been given a second chance but everyone knew he wasn't the kind who played nice. "How bout' you guide me straight to the exit instead?"
Levy straightened her back and gulped. She met his gaze dead on. "That's not how this works."
The room fell silent as Gajeel smirked, clearly enjoying the challenge.
Gray coughed as he shifted in his chair. "Moving on... So, can one of you tell me where the rink is?"
Erza responded quickly. "We'll give you the tour of the campus soon."
Laxus stood up. "Let's get on with it then." He reached for the schedules in Mirajane's hand but she smoothly stepped to the side, avoiding his grasp.
"Alrighty then," she said brightly, as though nothing happened. "Here are your new schedules." She smiled.
"Here you go, Laxus." She said brightly as she offered his schedule with a smile. He snatched it from her hand, his eyes narrowing, but said nothing.
"Jellal." She continued, handing him his. He accepted it with a polite smile. "Thank you." He said, though it seemed hollow. As if he were just playing a role. Erza had caught onto this.
Mirajane quickly handed out the last two in her hand. Gajeel didn't even glance at his when he got it while Gray muttered a thank you.
"Guess we're all set then." Gray said, though more to himself. He was not liking the vibe in here.
"Alright then, let's begin the tour." Erza said as she took charge, guiding them out of the room.
Erza led the way, her scarlet hair swaying as they walked through the halls. Laxus and Jellal analyzed every inch of the school as if seeing if it was up to their standards. Gray followed lazily, uninterested in the tour while Gajeel trailed behind with a scowl on his face.
As they turned the corner, Erza spoke. "This is the main area where most of the classes are held," she explained. "There are three levels. The library and faculty offices are located here as well." Her tone was calm like she was leading military operation than a school tour. "We'll head over to the athletic wing next."
Yukino added, softly. "If you need help finding your classes are, just ask us."
Laxus didn't seem to acknowledge her while Jellal responded with a nod. "Is there a special curriculum for advanced students here or are we expected to follow the same pace as everyone else?"
"There are plenty of opportunities for students to challenge themselves." Erza responded.
Jellal's lips curled into a small smile. "Interesting. And the student body? How does one join?"
Mirajane jumped in. "We hold elections at the beginning of the year. For anymore information you'll have to take it up with our president, Erza."
Jellal's gaze flickered over to her, his smile still in place. "Of course."
Mirajane pointed ahead. "And here's our gym. It was recently renovated, so everything's state-of-the-art. We hold all our major events— basketball, volleyball, you name it. It connects to the ice rink, swimming pool, and field."
"Woah, you guys also have a pool?" Gray asked.
Juvia glanced at him. "Yes, we have a competitive swimming team," she said quietly. "I'm the captain."
"Of the girls team?"
"No," she replied. "Both boys and girls are considered one team though they compete in their respective divisions."
Gray raised an eyebrow and gave a low whistle. "Not bad."
As the group continued their tour, the girls remained tense. They were unsure how much Laxus and Jellal knew and if they had known of their secrets.
"We've got several facilities in the athletic wing— the basketball courts, the gym, the field, the swimming pool, and the ice rink which you'll find just up ahead." Erza said, the last part directed toward Gray who was now fully interested.
"Finally, something to look forward to." He muttered under his breath.
"Not only does our school excel athletically but also academically." Levy added. "You'll find that we offer amazing clubs and teams such as the debate, mathematics, science, and more."
"Indeed."
"We'll head over to the field next. It's used for track, soccer, and other events." Erza said.
"I think we've seen enough." Laxus interrupted as he looked down on his watch. "As long as we know where everything is, we're good."
The girls each looked at Erza. No one ever interrupted her and whatever she said they did.
Erza's eyebrow twitched but she put on a smile. "Well, I guess this concludes our tour." She said through clenched teeth. "You've got about ten minutes before 1st period starts."
Laxus didn't bother with pleasantries, he turned on his heel without a word and left. Jellal followed close behind him. Gray gave a halfhearted wave before he disappeared down the hall toward the ice rink. Gajeel lingered for a moment before he stalked off.
As soon as the boys were out of earshot, Lucy let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. "That was exhausting." She muttered, running a hand through her blonde hair. "Do you think they know?"
"I'm not sure, but we need to be careful."
Kagura, who had remained silent throughout the tour, spoke up. "We need to stay one step ahead. Just like always."
Erza's gaze hardened. "Exactly, we can't have any mistakes."
The girls stood together. They had survived this long by sticking together, by watching each other's backs, and by keeping their secrets hidden from the world. No one could know what really went on behind their perfect façade they presented.
Because in their world, appearances were everything and any cracks on the surface could bring it all crashing down.
