PAW Patrol: Fragile Futures

The portal for Chase and Max open the day Max and Lily were born: August 17th, 2033. Chase and Max come out and the portal behind them closes. Chase looks around and is astonished how technology and transportation has changed in ten years from his time. He looks through the bushes and sees Mr. Porter!s cafe turned into a restaurant, and the delivery boy being no either than the teenage Alex. Chase feels like he could cry. Then Max urges him to come back.

Max: Hey, Dad? There!s something you might wanna see.

Chase looks away from the view of the future and sees a blissful image: the PAW Patrol in the future are inside, pacing back and forth. The future versions of Skye, Marshall or Katie are not in sight.

Chase: Why do you think we're pacing?

Max: I dunno. But we should put these on. (hands Chase a device to put on the PupTag) It's a device on your PupTag to enable the ability to make you invisible. (they out their devices on their chests but nothing happens) How do I look?

Chase: (grins) You're not John Cena, Max.

Max: Darn it, I forgot! Whoever's NOT wearing one of these can:t see us. 

Chase: (looks around and points to a familiar figure looking through the window from behind some bushes on his knees) Max, I found him! Ryder!

Max: (Sees Ryder) All right! Now let's go!

Then the German Shepherds hear future Skye screaming in pain. Then they hear future Chase run and yell in concern for his wife.

Adult Chase (2033): I'M COMING, SKYE!!!!!!!!

Chase: Who just yelled that?

Max: You did.

Chase: No, I heard some adult voice saying to Skye that they're coming.

Max: Have you forgotten? This is the day me and Lily were born. (Gasps in realization) We gotta get Ryder quick!"

Chase: What? What's gonna happen?

Max: I'll never know whether or not who was born first: me or Lily!

Chase: (rolls his eyes and smirks) Okay. Come on!

The pups run to Ryder's side, who is crying at looking at his pup, all grown up. Chase and Max, unnoticed by Ryder, look out through the window. Then they see adult Chase holding a paw (obviously adult Skye's). Then Katie comes in with the firstborn: Lily. 

Adult Katie (2033): (seen from outside the window) Here's your firstborn daughter, Chase. (Holds baby Lily in a towel)

Adult Chase (2033): Wait. Wait. Wait. Firstborn?! (Smiles wildly)

Chase: (looking through window) Sheesh.

Max: (gloomily) I know. Lily is the older sister. And you still keep your wild smile.

 Chase: No, I sound like Tobey Maguire. This is great!

Adult Marshall (2033): Here:s your boy, Chase. (Hands baby Max to Chase, who starts to cry in joy).

Max: Hey, maybe I can use that fact that I was the first to be in dad's paws to make a comeback for Lily.

Ryder: Huh? (Sniffles from crying) Who's there?

Chase and Max: (taking off their devices) Hey, Ryder.

Ryder: (nearly breathless) Chase . . . Max . . . Oh! (Hugs both the Shepherds and cry on their shoulders. He turns to Chase) You've grown up in there. (Sniffles).

Chase: (pats Ryder on the back) It's okay, Ryder. I'm young here. I'm young now. Now let's go back to where I'm . . . Uhh . . . a TINY bit younger. (Looks back to the window and sees adult Chase and adult Skye naming their pups.)

Adult Chase (2033): How about we name the girl after your mom?

Adult Skye (2033): Lillian? No way! (Everyone from the year 2033 in the Lookout chuckle) How about Lily? It's shorter.

Adult Chase (2033): And (sniffs from crying of sobbing of joy) what about our boy?

Adult Marshall (2033): How about my dad's name, Chase? "Maximus"?

Adult Katie (2033): Yikes! Hmm. How about Max?

Adult Skye (2033): Max and Lily.

Adult Chase (2033): Lily and Max. I like it.

Max watches in tears, seeing the day of his birth. He then realizes "Why do I have to sound so stupid around my sister? Why couldn't we get along?" Then he sees Skye andChase trying to have Max and Lily together. The younger versions of Max and his sister use their paws in a high-five. Ryder and Chase notice it and look at Max with a smirk as the younger Max and Lily hug each other, and they barely opened their eyes. Then they end the group hug. Ryder sniffles, proud to admit he's seen enough of the future.

Ryder: (voice breaking) I'm ready, guys.

Chase and Max nod at each other as the portal opens and they walk to it. The portal closes and the last thing Chase sees is him and Skye in the future, cherishing the first few moments with their children.

Oh my. (Sniffles) I almost felt like if I was reading this story out loud, I'd crack too. How do you think of the sweet beginning of Lily and Max's lives? I know other people think too much of the sweetness of family is just sick. But it's not the sick that makes you feel queasy, or nauseous, or even just plain sick. It's what makes lives sweeter. Think about that.
