When they reached the crime scene, it was already swarming with reporters and media. They were met with a familiar face.

"Freen," Saint acknowledged, not hiding his displeasure when he spotted her.

"Captain," she replied, her voice neutral.

"Freen, please, prepare yourself before you go in," Saint said, concern etched on his face.

"Fuck... they barely look 18," Heng muttered, eyes fixed on the two lifeless girls lying on the ground.

"They're 19. Both college students," Saint added.

"They look like... oh my god, the resemblance is uncanny," Nam said, panic creeping into her voice.

Young, green-eyed blondes. The killer was starting to target girls who looked like Becky.

Freen tried to wrap her head around the unsettling fact that her girlfriend, now wife, had become the sick bastard’s twisted muse.

Did anyone know the extent of Becky’s actions? Because Freen was staring at two nearly identical dead girls that looked just like Becky, and it felt like a threat. Was it possible the killer was following her?

If that was the case... was Becky in danger? Could she handle herself? Was this a message—and to whom?

Was the killer trying to tell her something? Was he warning her, or was he taunting her?

Was this about Becky, or was it about Freen herself? The doubts were mounting, and the feeling of dread was suffocating.

This felt personal.

The case was beginning to chip away at Freen’s composure, her armor, leaving her vulnerable and powerless. All she could think about was losing another girlfriend to this maniac.

She couldn't let what happened to Mind happen to Becky.

She would protect Becky—from the killer, from the law, from everything.

"Freen, if we had any doubts after the last murder, we’re sure now. He's after Becky. But why her?" Saint asked.

"Whoever is doing this is a psycho. We can’t try to make sense of their actions," Freen said, trying to steer the conversation away from Becky.

"Do you think we should give Becky a protection detail? Maybe he’s obsessed with her?" Nam asked, worry clear in her voice.

"What do you think, Freen?" Saint asked, his voice firm. He wasn’t going to move forward without her approval.

"I don’t think she’d want that. She's either at court or home with me. I don’t think it’s necessary." Becky would never agree to extra attention. She didn’t even know what Becky was up to, but the risk of getting caught should be lowered, not increased. Freen could protect her if it came to that.

"Are you sure?" Saint pressed.

"Yes."

"Fine. But I need you to wrap this up and head home. I know we’ve all had a long day, and I’m sure it’s only going to get worse from here."

"Why? It's not like we were getting much sleep before now," Nam said with a hint of sarcasm.

"Let me tell you something no one else knows," Saint said, his voice lowering. "Some higher-ups, including the chief, never wanted this guy caught. He was doing us a favor by keeping the filth off the streets. Our serial killer was practically a vigilante until now."

"Still, it’s not right to take justice into your own hands. Even if the system’s failed you, there has to be a system, rules... Otherwise, what would this world look like?" Heng said, his anger palpable. He might have a point, but Freen couldn’t think like that. She needed to stay on Becky’s side.
