"Why Hermit Crabs?"

When I was in school, my science teacher had a tortoise, and a turtle. I grew up in a house with both furry and feathery friends, so I couldn't just ignore when things didn't feel quite right. A quick Google search showed the harsh reality; the animals were suffering due to their living conditions. I took matters into my own hands, and invested in proper care. After months of persistence, the teacher allowed me to adopt the box turtle. A proper enclosure brought out a vibrant transformation – a confident, curious turtle emerged.

This altered my perspectives, making me question animal care as a whole. I began joining Facebook groups that showed me a world of animals I never knew existed. The response that I got from hermit crab groups was overwhelming. I learned about the horrors of the hermit crab trade, and the extensive care that these guys require to thrive in captivity.

I set up a tank, and not long after, a family in my town was rehoming their crab. I started foraging in my local area, and people were asking for things that I had! That's how my shop began! At the time, I was working at the local pet store, and it highlighted a glaring gap; the animals in my town lacked proper supplies. The only store we have does not provide what the animals here need; so, I became committed to filling the unique needs of our town's critters myself. 

Seeing the remarkable impact on behavior, vitality, and overall health when these animals are given the right conditions is life changing.
It has given me a deep sense of empathy and I want to ensure that hermit crabs, often misunderstood and overlooked, receive the care they deserve.
