Walking into the Dam this morning, Max and the stroller in toe- the wind has left Max's and mines sails this morning. Saturday's painful truths left us both feeling too weak and vulnerable to even attempt enjoying Sunday. So all we did yesterday was lounge around the house while Zep and Luna did their thing.

It wasn't that we weren't excited for Alice.

We are. Most definitely.

Yet our own painful jealousy only reminded us that we need to hope and pray for miracles that may never actually happen- despite what Jessup told us.

We brooded yesterday and well into this morning- but we carry our heads high as we walk across the Dam because we are the faces of our people and we mustn't seem so dullard.

"Love?" Max calls from a few feet back, and I turn and find him standing behind the stroller.

"Hmm?" I head back to him and he shows me his phone.

"It's going to get busy really fast."

"Dear Lord. Let's get the children to Ped's and hit the ED." I state and he agrees. We rush through the morning routine of dropping the babies off at the nursery. Tossing my bag and the stroller in Max's office, we run to the ED and sure enough, the room is being devoured by gurneys upon gurneys.

"Bloom?! How can we help?!" Max and I call as we enter and she points to two bays to her right. We head there and how unfortunate are Max and I as we find two pregnant women both in a lot of pain.

"I'm Dr. Max Sharpwin and this is Dr. Helen Sharpwin- how can we help?" Max states and the two women wince and hold their stomachs.

"Pain...a lot of it..." The first, a black woman with buzzed hair groans as she tries to readjust herself.

"What's your name?" I ask and pull the clipboard from the bed to jot it down.

"Georgia Gates...." My eyes catch Max's stooping posture. "That's my partner...Helen Pretti."

She gestures to the white woman beside her.

Max and I share a quick unnerved glance and I try my best to smile and seem professional.

But what are the odds.

I mean honestly.

"How far along are you both?" I ask.

"Exactly 37 weeks. Phhhh....we were inseminated on the same day. Wanted to make sure...we both got to experience the miracle of...phhh bring our children into the world..." She groans and looks at Helen, her wife. "You okay baby?"

"No...not at all..."

Max and I begin moving them up to the maternity ward and yet the entire way we feel as if something heavy is weighing on us.

"Were you in the car accident?" Max asks as we weight in the elevator.

"On our way to the hospital...actually. Our cab was....gggghhh... was crushed in between a bus and the car behind us...phhh....the driver...didn't make it." Georgia states and holds Helen's hand.

"And you both went into labor before the accident?" I ask and Georgia shakes her head.

"No...Helen wasn't feeling well today. Was worried because she hasn't felt the baby move all morning. We were riding in to get her checked out and....phhh shit went sideways....literally." Georgia states and Helen seems as though she is in pain, but not the physical kind. It breaks my heart because she most likely understands why she doesn't feel the baby moving.
