The island was beautiful. No, that was an understatement. It looked like Iceland, a Caribbean Island, and Glacier National Park rolled all into one in its beauty. It was the nature and beauty I wanted to cover the world.
There was also a bridge over a ravine, and at the base of the ravine, a meadow sat where several sheep grazed.
"Wow," I said and sniffed the air, expecting it to smell fruity and fresh. It did, but there was also another smell in the air. It was faint, but my supersonic sense of smell picked it up; it was of rotten eggs and old trash.
I gagged. "Holy Hades, that Cyclops smells."
"Look." Raiden was pointing up past the sheep. "It's the Golden Fleece."
Next to the sheep, a path sat, leading up into the hills. Near the canyon's edge, at the top of the path, was a huge massive oak tree. In its branches, a ram's skin lay, glittering gold.
"It can't be that easy," Percy said, frowning. "We can just waltz up there and grab the Fleece?"
At his words, I had a sudden image of myself in a silver, poofy dress dancing the waltz up the path with one of the sheep.
I shook my head vigorously.
Brain, I thought. WTF is wrong with you?
A lot of things, replied the little voice in my head. But, mainly, it's you.
Pssst, kid.
"Huh?" I looked around, confused.
Psst over here. On your right.
I looked to my right. A seagull was perched on the side of the boat, with its head cocked at me.
"Oh, hi," I said to the seagull, walking over to it. "Did you need something? Are you in danger?"
No, you are, squawked the seagull.
I frowned. "What do you mean?"
Come with me! squawked the seagull. And I'll tell you. It's important. It's about you and your brother.
I looked over at Agro and Zade.
Go, Agro barked. We'll stay here.
"Okay," I said.
I walked to the edge of the ship and was about to jump off when Annabeth said, "Where are you going?"
"This seagull" -I gestured to the bird next to me- "is telling that he has something important to tell me."
Annabeth furrowed her brow.
"Don't you think it's a little suspicious," she said, "that a seagull happens to appear right at the moment when we're about to rescue Grover and claims to need to tell important information, alone?"
"Annabeth," I said, "my mother is the Goddess of Wild Animals. I think I can know when to trust a wild animal."
"But it's not wise-"
"Annabeth!" I snapped, losing my temper. "This is my decision. I know when to trust an animal, and I trust this one. So, if you'll excuse me, I have to go."
Without looking back, I leapt off the side of the ship and turned into a hawk. Yeah, bad decision, but I didn't know it at the time.
Where are we going? I squawked.
