Regulus really isn't sure how he got here. Well actually he does. The reason is an ever incessant Pandora Lestrange.
She had caught him on a quiet Friday evening, studying OWL level potions in the dimly lit library in silence and all but dragged him away from the books. Oh what he would give to inhale the addictive aroma of old books again.
She had proceeded to drag him, much against his will to his dorm demanding he change into more casual clothes.
That had proven an issue to Regulus, who not only flat out refused without an explanation as to why he should change from his smart shirt and tie (After all Regulus thought he looked rather handsome) but after eventually ceding to Pandora's persuasive powers Regulus had found he didn't really own many 'casual' clothes.
Eventually Pandora had all but barged into Regulus's wardrobe (if it was anyone other than Pandy, his best friend, then he would have killed them on the spot) and mere moments later emerged with a jumper and trousers. He begrudgingly put them on. If only he had known then what he was getting into.
He isn't sure how she'd managed to get him here but Regulus was currently perched precariously on a Gryffindor sofa. He bit his nails anxiously and desperately avoided eye contact with pretty much everyone.
Parties were not Regulus's thing. He hated them. Hates a strong word. He despised them.
From the obnoxious talking to the loud ear aching music, Regulus hated it all. They had only been here for around half an hour, the sun had not even fully set and he already wanted to leave. He glanced at the floor as if willing it to swallow him whole.
Pandora on the other hand flourished in a party, if Regulus was a fish out of water here then Pandora was swimming in the deep end
She danced drunkenly with a girl who Regulus recognized as Mary McDonald, a Gryffindor the year above Reg and Pandora, for a while. She seemed to not care if eyes were on her and instead took to drawing more attention by jumping on the sofa Regulus was currently hiding on and pushing him flat against it.
"REG!" She squealed hugging him tight and twirling his curls with her fingers, amused at the way they sprang back up despite her tugging. "I DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE HERE!" She was both seemingly pleased and shocked at his presence and dragged him to stand up with her.
"I wouldn't be if not for you Pandy." He replied dryly hoping to quiet her down. He removed himself from her tight embrace and tried to sit back down but he had hardly moved before she pulled him forward.
"LETS DANCE REGGIE!" she excitedly giggled and grabbed his hands, manically moving them in an attempt to dance to the muggle music.
"Pandy!" He blushed furiously"Don't call me that" he said desperately trying to quieten her.
"But I always call you that?" She slowly and sadly said suddenly looking on the verge of tears. "Are we not friends anymore Reg!?!" She gasped now actually crying and throwing her arms around Regulus as she sobbed.
"Wha-what?.. No Pandy! We... We're friends! I.. promise?" he awkwardly panicked.
Another thing he hated was extreme acts of emotion. Something Pandora was prone to, especially when drunk.
She sobbed more. "I thought we were BEST FRIENDS FOREVER!" She howled into his shoulder, as her own shook with tears.
"We are!" He quickly told her. "We're um... Best friends forever?" He practically cringed at his words, they made him sound like an eleven year old girl. "There, there?" He guessed in an attempt to reassure her as her tapped her head softly yet stiffly.
"I love you Reggie bear" she wailed thankfully quieter now, some people now looked away though Regulus could swear he saw Remus Lupin stifle a giggle from across the common room.
"Pandy!" He blushed. "Not here!" He muttered quieter a bashful flush filled his pale skin. He looked around thankful not to see Sirius. He would just die if Siri heard that.
"Please dance with me Reggie? Pretty, pretty please!!" She begged, perking up at the idea of dancing again.
He looked at his drunk yet excited best friend and frowned. Damn you Pandora and your stupid powers of Persuasion. At that exact moment Sirius walked by a quarter filled- bottle of Fire whiskey in hand.
Regulus stared at Pandy's large hopeful eyes. Yep, he was doing this.
He quickly grabbed Sirius's bottle and downed the contents. They left a burning after taste in his throat."Okay Pandy, quick." He said hastily pulling them away from a disgruntled Sirius before he could so much as speak or protest.
He moved a little wobbly as they danced and could slowly feel himself becoming prey to the burning alcohol. He felt giddy and soon found himself twirling around with Pandora.
They ran a rampage in the Gryffindor common rooms stealing bottles and cans from unsuspecting party goers, gradually become more and more wasted.
Maybe this would be fun after all.
