"When you...left, your mom and I were prescribed medication to help us cope, I was diagnosed with depressiion and so was your mom. it helped her in the beginning, then she stopped using them because she thought we were trying to make her crazy."
Soemthing in my chest snapped, hell, that's the only sensation I felt ever since I came back home, I had no idea these things were happening, I was told by my old man that everything was fine, sad but fine, that he had it under control, it was far from the truth.
I swallowed hard and gripped the steering wheel.
"The hurt made a lot of people say things they didn't mean, I hope they didn't mean it."She said quietly.
"Who said what?"
"Well—"She paused before continuing.
"I was often blamed for your leave."
"What? By who?"
"Your mom. Evander of course defended me from anyone that said such things, even if they looked at me a bit differently he'd confront them, I never talked back because I knew they were hurt, but—it's still not easy to go there and pretend their words didn't hurt."
I reached with my hand and caressed her cheek gently, my eyes were focused on the road but I felt her give in to my touch.
"Im sorry for everything that happened, I had no idea they blamed you for it. I promise you when they come by tonight I will tell them, I planned on inviting them anyways, we need to make a plan on how to find out who this stalker psychopath is."
"No."
"What? Why not?"
"It's in the past, there's no need to rewind what happened, I'm sure nobody thinks that anymore."
I gave her cheeks a squeeze before I pulled my hand away."You're my wife, nobody is allowed to say anything rude to you, no matter who it is they still need to know thier place, its good that Evander defended you like that, I feel a little better knowing you had some kind of support."
"I always had support from your brother and sister, they helped me overcome a lot of the struggles I had, thank you for telling them to take care of me while i was gone."She put her hand on my lap and I smiled.
"Always, Adelaine."I took her hand in mine and gave it a kiss.
The rest of the drive was relaxing, we talked more about the thungs that happened while I was gone, and a few things I should watch out on now that we are starting over again. She told me a bit about Evander and Princess, their interests, favourite colours, and stuff they used to say about me each time they caught Adelaine looking at my pictures. it helped me get a clearer image of who my kids were and how I can get them to trust me, that was the only thing that mattered to me, the rest i believed-would fall in it's place.
We pulled up to the driveway and I noticed two new cars parked next to each other, I recognized them, mom and dad. I exhaled and looked at Adelaine"So much for throwing a welcome home party and inviting them,."She lauged and shook her head.
"Only you can call it a welcome home party like you just came home from college campus, you've been gone for years, remember?"
I shrugged.
"I'm back now though, I'd expect a banner with the words we missed you and a welcome home cake."
"You cant throw yourself a welcome home party and invite people, Kingston."I groaned.
"Damnit, there go my Sunday night plans."I joked and pointed at the house.
"We will continue this conversation later, now we have to go and explain everything to mom."She nodded and we got out of the car.
