Hailey laid in bed looking at the ceiling, it was Sunday night. She had school early the next morning and was having a hard time sleeping. Hailey decided to check the time, 23:56. Almost the next day.

After a while she decided to text someone to see if they were up. She noticed that Jake was online so she just straight up called him.

—————————————————————

Jake was sitting in his room just watching things online. He was really bored, but not tired. It was extremely late at night and he had a long day.

He had to watch his younger brother play basketball all day and It bored him. Milo was asleep so was his mom so he just mindlessly scrolled on instagram. As he was watching a random video about someone singing, he got a call from Hailey.

—————————————————————

"Hello?" He mumbled, Hailey breathed lightly into the phone.

"Hi." She said awkwardly as she heard him shuffle around on the other line.

"Is everything okay? It's already past 24." Jake said after a few moments.

Hailey sighed, "Yes everything's alright, I'm just having a hard time sleeping."

Jake chuckled, "Oh so you decided to call me?"

"Yeah, you wanna face time? It's obvious you can't fall asleep either if you're up too." Hailey smiled a little adjusting herself.

"Kay." He answered back before hitting the face time button.

—————————————————————

They spend a while talking about random things. Jake kept making her laugh with all the interesting things he had to say. She was glad that he had called him and felt her cheeks flush pink while giggling.

"So who you going to the formal with?" He asked leaning on his bed frame.

Hailey thought for a moment, "I might just go with Milly, what about you?"

Jake shrugged, "Dunno, I've thought about asking Daisy." Hailey felt her heart drop, strange, she shouldn't care. But he continued, "But I don't think I will, I mean I'm just really confused right now. I don't even know if I like her anymore."

"Oh, okay." Hailey felt herself perk up but they just continued their conversation.

"Zander has been strangely nice to me lately, I find it suspicious." Jake said tilting his head and squinting his eyes.

Hailey laughed at the face he made and he looked over at her. He realized how nice her laugh sounded and how beautiful she was in the moonlight. His own thoughts made him turn a deep crimson red.

"Are you okay?" She asked looking at his red face thinking he was sick or something.

Jake frantically stuttered, "I-I'm f-fine! H-Hailey!" He awkwardly laughed before his bedroom door swung open.

"Jake go to bed it's 3 in the morning! I can hear you across the hall, you'll see your girlfriend tomorrow!" Milo said looking like he needed more sleep.

Jake yelled, "Shut up! She's not my girlfriend!" His face was brighter than ever.

Hailey felt her own face heat up as well but then she heard Milo say, "Whatever just get to bed."

The door closed and Jake said, "We should probably sleep, we've been on call for three hours."

Hailey felt her heart skip a beat, "Yeah, good night." She mumbled breathing small breaths.

"Night princess, love you." Jake said not thinking. They both realized what he said and their eyes widened before he quickly hung up.

—————————————————————

Jake was hitting his head on his bed thinking, "Why did I say that?!"

He laid on his back while a thousand thoughts blurred through his head. He thought about how Hailey was his best friend and how much he cared for her. He really loved her like family, maybe something more but he didn't understand it yet.

Then he thought about how awkward it was going to be at school tomorrow. Great, another way to make her uncomfortable.

—————————————————————

Hailey was just looking at her phone in her hand. Unable to comprehend what just happened. "Did he mean it?" She mumbled her thoughts aloud.

She thought no, he only loves me as a best friend. Why do I even care? I don't like him like that.

Eventually she settled down at around 4 getting sleepy she kept replaying his words in her mind.
