Another text from Joe came in telling me to be careful with whatever was going on with her, but I assured him that there was nothing to worry about. I was done for good and I meant it.
“Okay guys,” Andrew said, clapping his hands together. “I have some news.”
“I bet it’s a good one,” Muna winked at him, grinning as she re-positioned in her seat.
I locked my phone screen, and as I dropped my phone on the table, I rested my gaze on Simon again. I already knew that whatever Andrew was going to say had to do with him. I recognized that look in Andrew’s eyes. The look he always had whenever he was in love, or obsessing over someone. I knew what his news was, but what I didn’t know was if Simon was taking this seriously too.
Andrew always lost it whenever he liked someone, he always overdid It. it’s either he chased them away with his excessive bombarding of love or he fell in love with people, who just wanted to take advantage of him. He always shielded himself with his overly positiveness, but I knew deep down it hurt. It did hurt me too because Andrew was a good guy. He deserved someone, who would bring their A-game because he always brought his.
“So guys I and Simon…” he started, glancing at Simon who smiled at him, and took his hand in his. “Are officially together.” He said with his smiling eyes still on Simon.
“Oh my God.” Muna squealed. “I knew it, I knew it.” She chanted happily. Now my gaze was on her as my lips quivered in a smile. She was cute and as I stared at her, my mind drifted into the thought of when and if we would ever get to this point. She shifted the bottle of water on the table in front of her and leaned forward. She held Andrew’s free hand in hers. “I am happy for you, Drew. You deserve true love.” She said it like she had been here long enough and had seen Andrew struggle with those douche-bags from the past.
I turned my gaze back to Simon and cleared my throat, drawing everyone’s attention to me. Simon was a good-looking man, almost as tall as Andrew with dimples appearing on his cheeks each time he smiled or talked. His long wavy dark hair was tied in a low bun, and now that I think about it, Andrew had a type. He loved good-looking men. But looks were not all that mattered, I needed to know his intention, and if he was taking this seriously. Andrew wasn’t just my best friend, he was my brother and I had to look out for him.
“So what about you Simon? Is this thing with Andrew serious or you just–”
“Nicklaus!” Andrew yelled, and I glanced at him and Muna, who looked like she was about to yell too. “Stop acting like you’re my father.”
I scoffed inwardly. His father? The man hadn’t even accepted his son was gay. He was still hoping for a miracle to change him.
“I am just looking out for you stupid,” I said, forcing myself not to glare at him.
I cared about Andrew, and when it came to me, he was always also protective. That was why I didn’t tell him about Ms Allison, nor did I tell Julia. Knowing them too well, I decided to keep it a secret.
“It’s okay, babe.” Simon smiled at Andrew, his dimples digging deeper into his cheeks. Turning to me, he said, “I understand you might not like me–”
“I didn’t say that, I just want to make sure you’re taking this seriously and not playing with his feelings,” I said, seriously.
“Okay let me rephrase that, I know you don’t trust me yet but I assure you, Andrew is…” he paused and glanced at Andrew, who had been staring at him the whole time.
I almost rolled my eyes. So now they couldn’t get out a full sentence without looking at each other? Meanwhile, Muna seemed to be enjoying their affectionate display, and wasn’t her face hurting by that huge grin plastered on it? I would have asked but she wasn’t looking at me, she was looking at the couple in front of us.
