As the sun's warm rays touched my skin, a sense of excitement filled my chest. Summer was here, a season of boundless opportunities, where every day seemed like an adventure waiting to unfold. Little did I know that amidst the leisurely afternoons and carefree laughter, a significant event was about to take place, which would mark the beginning of a new chapter in my life.

It happened on a seemingly ordinary day, much like any other. I awoke to the gentle rustle of leaves outside my window, and the soft chirping of birds was a soothing melody in the background. But as I went about my morning routine, a subtle shift in my body caught me by surprise.

I ignored the discomfort at first, thinking that it was just a minor inconvenience that would go away soon. However, as the day progressed, the feeling grew stronger, and it was always at the back of my mind, nagging me.

When I experienced my first period, it felt strange, like my body was doing something new. I was confused, excited, and a little scared. But mostly, I felt amazed at what my body was capable of. It made me feel special, like I was part of a club of women who had gone through the same thing. Although it was scary and cool at the same time, I felt proud of my body and its abilities.

I felt strange inside and didn't quite understand what was happening. It made me wonder if I was becoming a woman and how that would change things for me. Would people see me differently? Would I see myself differently? It was all confusing, and I didn't have any clear answers.

As summer ends and school starts, I met my friends under the old oak tree. We shared our summer stories and excitement for the year ahead. I had unforgettable memories to share. Taking a deep breath, I spoke up, my voice steady with newfound confidence. "Guys, I have something to tell you," I began, my voice trembling slightly with nerves.

Riya, ever perceptive, arched an eyebrow in curiosity. "What's up, Maya? You seem excited."

I hesitated for a moment, searching for the right words to convey the gravity of what I was about to reveal. "Well, um, you know how we always share everything? Well, something kinda big happened to me over the summer."

Jen's eyes widened in anticipation. "Ooh, spill the tea, Maya! What's the gossip?"

I shook my head, a faint blush colouring my cheeks. "It's not gossip, Jen! It's, uh, personal. But I think you all should know... I got my first period."

There was a moment of stunned silence as my friends processed the news. Then, Tia let out a gasp of surprise. "No way! Really? That's huge, Maya!"

Riya nodded in agreement. "Wow, Maya, that's a big deal! How do you feel about it?"

I shrugged, unable to hide the mix of emotions swirling inside me. "Honestly, I'm a little freaked out. It's like this whole new thing I have to deal with now, you know?"

Jen reached out, squeezing my hand in solidarity. "Totally get it, Maya. It can be kinda scary at first, but trust me, you'll get used to it."

Tia chimed in with a bright smile. "And hey, at least you have us to talk to about it. We're here for you, Maya."

I couldn't help but feel grateful as I looked around at my dear friends who have been my constant support. "Thank you so much, guys. I really appreciate it. I just needed to share my thoughts with someone who can truly understand me."

We heard the familiar sound of the school bell, which meant our short break was over. We made our way back to our classrooms quietly, ready to continue learning. As we took our seats, we whispered in anticipation of the upcoming lectures. We focused on the teacher at the front of the room and prepared ourselves to learn and discover new things.
