Chapter 45 [Part 1/2]

It was someone of the same height, standing tall with an impassive expression, holding a thick book like a shield at nose level. Squinting his eyes, Jin Young tried to make out the person's eyes and peek at their face behind the book that concealed most of their features. As the individual lowered the book, realization dawned upon him.

"Oh, I know you! You're the one who's pursuing Nayeon, right? The super attractive and popular law student!" Jin Young exclaimed, pointing his finger at Jeongyeon.

Jeongyeon's gaze followed his finger and then locked onto his eyes. Her deadpan expression transformed into a chilly one.

Jin Young quickly caught on, realizing that his pointed gesture may have offended her. He awkwardly lowered his hand and flashed a sheepish grin.

"Jeongyeon," she uttered her name coldly, extending her right hand for a handshake.

"Oh, right! Jeongyeon... Jeongyeon Yoo. You were also the one who won the debate battle yesterday. Congratulations, Bae!" Jin Young said in a most girlish voice, giving Jeongyeon a soft pat on the shoulder.

"Thank you," Jeongyeon replied, her tone still chilly, which started to make Jin Young feel self-conscious.

I wonder if Tzuyu and her friends are always so robotic and intimidating. They seem so rigid. But she definitely doesn't come across as cold when she's with Nayeon. Jin Young pondered silently, masking his train of thought with a wide grin directed at Jeongyeon.

Chaeyoung and Nayeon continued to argue just a few meters behind them. Chaeyoung had completely forgotten about their plan to prevent Jin Young from following Sana, as she was fully engaged in her heated dispute with Nayeon. Their voices echoed through the air, reaching Jeongyeon's ears despite the distance between them.

Jin Young pointed behind him, indicating the presence of Chaeyoung and Nayeon. "Your girl is over there," he said with a casual wave. "I'll head off now. See you later, Bae." He lightly patted Jeongyeon's shoulder once more.

As Jin Young lifted his left foot to begin walking, he was taken aback when he felt a strong hand firmly gripping his right shoulder, preventing him from leaving.

He turned his head towards Jeongyeon, who maintained her stoic expression while looking straight ahead, filling him with confusion. He glanced at her hand on his shoulder before shifting his bewildered gaze back to Jeongyeon.

"Um... What are you doing?" Jin Young asked, still perplexed. Jeongyeon's eyes remained fixed ahead, but she could see Jin Young's confused face in her peripheral vision.

Jin Young blinked several times, receiving no response to his question. He cleared his throat and forced a fake smile, attempting to lighten the atmosphere as he began to feel uneasy and intimidated by Jeongyeon's presence.

"Do you need something, Bae? I'm all for getting to know you and hanging out sometime but now is not the ideal moment. I'm in a rush," Jin Young spoke again in a calm tone, trying to appear composed despite his growing unease. His gaze never left Jeongyeon.

For a few moments, silence hung in the air after his words. Then, slowly, Jeongyeon turned her head towards Jin Young.

For some inexplicable reason, Jin Young found himself swallowing nervously as Jeongyeon's icy amber eyes locked with his dark brown ones.

"You should really give your Japanese friend some time with my namdongsaeng. I'm keeping a close eye on you, man. I'm watching your actions," Jeongyeon said in a cold tone, emphasizing the word 'man', which made Jin Young nervous. However, he quickly regained his composure.

Jin Young let out a forced chuckle and replied, "What do you mean by that? Nayeon will be jealous if she finds out that I'm catching your attention, Bae," he said flirtatiously, trying to play it cool despite feeling uneasy inside. He playfully slapped Jeongyeon's arm, causing her hand to slip from his shoulder.
