We rushed to the door, trying to keep it closed for as long as possible. We needed to stall so Dante could finish up, and we couldn't have any more deterrence than what we've already had.
"Open this door!" He rammed into the door with something big, and I could hear other people with him. He must have called the police with some made up alibi, trespassers. "Dante are you almost done?!"
Dante was typing away on a calculator, and moving from it to the machine, scanning in all the necessary information. "Almost finished, I just need to-"
"Just get it done!!" Carmen reprimanded. Holding on to as long as we could, Dante finally finished, and he rushed to turn it on. The lights began to flicker, and the room temperature dropped. It's finished.
"Ok, on the count of three, we all start running towards the middle of the room. I'm sure it will appear just in time for us to make our escape."
The door burst open, and Michael was surrounded by officers. "Arrest those trespassers, and make sure they don't steal anything from my lab!"
"THREE!!"
We all booked it to the center of the room, and fortunately the hole opened up, giving us perfect timing to escape. First Carmen, then me, and then-
"Wait!! I forgot the hard drive!!" Dante rushed back in the other direction towards the machinery and grabbed the hard drive, but turned around only to be met with Michael.
"Hand it over Mr.Caruso, if you know what's good for you." Dante froze, and I knew I had to act quickly or this wouldn't end well. I rushed back out of the portal, but the ground began to shake. I tried to get towards him, but I kept losing my balance. "Dante, come!" His eyes darted to me.
Run!"
He took off towards the portal, surprisingly steady as each foot of his hit the crumbling ground, advancing further to the portal. I grabbed a nearby pipe that had fallen from the ceiling, and sent it hurling towards Michael. The police officers were stumbling to stay upright, hands barely able to hold the guns they were carrying. I turned around and ran for the portal, trying my best to keep in a straight line. I passed through, and the transfer was much quicker than before. I was suddenly enveloped in a warm atmosphere, and I immediately knew I was home.
