The sunlight shone through the amazon trees that towered over Natasha Romanoff as the hammock she was laying in rocked softly in the breeze. She felt an arm at her waist, a warm chest pressed her tightly against it. Turning over, her gaze settled on Bruce Banner, whose eyes opened when he felt her turn in his arms.

She ran a hand down one side of his face, fingers scraping at his stubble as she analysed him carefully. The skin around his eyes crinkled as he smiled at her, eyes sparkling in the light.

"Good morning sleepy head" Bruce muttered softly, reaching up a hand to softly wrap a tendril of Natasha's wine red hair around his fingers.

The left side of her lips picking up in what she hoped was a good imitation of a smile. She was getting better at it.

"Hello. How long was I asleep?" she asked, rubbing a hand over her eyes. She didn't remember falling to sleep, or how she got here.

"I don't know. Long enough." He answered, running his own hand down her face to settle at the nape of her neck.

Natasha turned her attention to his arm and pressed her lips to his skin.

"You should have woken me up."

"You needed to sleep."

"I don't need to sleep, I-"

Bruce cut her off, "Yes you do, you-"

"-need to see you." Natasha finished. "Always." An easy grin coming to her face. He made a lot of things easier. Like sleeping.

He smiled back at her, showing all the wrinkles on his tanned tired face.

"Romanoff. I didn't know you could be, what Stark would call, such a cheese ball." Bruce teased.

"I'm stating fact Banner. Always." Natasha replied, cocking her head slightly, continuing her analysis of his face.

The space between his eyebrows scrunched up in confusion at this.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

Staring him directly in the eye he could almost see the hyper active gears in her head turning, her brilliant mind working over a million different things at once.

"I had...a dream..." she answered finally. A small and rare confusion flickered across her face.

Bruce remained silent, waiting for her to answer, knowing not to pressure her.

"You... left me..." she said, pausing slightly. "You said we would leave....everything...together." Her face scrunched up slightly, her confusion more evident now.

"You lied. To me. I didn't think it was possible."

Bruce chuckled slightly, the sound vibrating through his chest and through her.

"Well, I am only human Natasha. I can lie."

His laughter stopped when he looked back at Natasha who was regarding him with a very serious look again.

"You're not human. Not to me." she said, gently taking his chin in her palm, leaning over to brush her lips against his ear when she spoke. "You're better."

She kissed the side of his face and settled back into her original position, lying closer in front of him where he looked at her in slight shock and nerves from her close proximity.

"Really?" He asked.

She smiled back in reply.

"Because I've got a confession myself." Bruce said, pulling himself up so that he was hovering over her, his mouth at her ear.

His warm breath played with her hair, tickling her skin, as she locked eyes with him.

He lowered himself closer as he spoke.

"Your dream isn't a lie. THIS is a lie." he sneered, flecks of warm spit hit her ear drum.

She recoiled in shock and reflexively folded her knees up and kicked him away from her.

He flew from the hammock as his body began to expand, his clothes stretched and shredded and his skin turned that familiar terrifying green.

Natasha flipped out of the hammock, immediately reaching for her gun on the side table, pointing it at the Hulk who prowled in front of her. His dark eyes sneered at her, gleaming and mocking her.

"Of course this is a dream Natasha, of course this is a lie. Lies and dreams are all you've ever known" the beasts low, gravelly voice taunted her, circling her as he closed in slowly.

A tear escaped her eye and rolled down her cheek before she could stop it. The beast laughed. He didn't sound anything like Banner, but she knew it was him in there, so she couldn't bring herself to hurt him. She lowered her gun but before she could reply, the beast leaped towards her and she fell back into a dark hole. His loud laughter boomed all around her as the darkness swallowed them both...
